My moms friends dog was ran over a few days ago outside their house. I don't know the whole story, but apparently  Sam didn't feel the need to have Cissy on a leash, since they were right outside their homes and it was going to be just for a few moments, and Cissy happened to run out into the streets at the wrong moment and was hit and killed.

This did not have to happen, if Cissy had been on a leash.

I think that most places have leash-laws, so it is her own damn fault.

Aylee it is, but it's tragic too. You never think right outside your own home, in a trailer park that your animal could be hit. My heart hurts for her and for her dog. I was so torn up when I lost my dog, and that was due to old age, I can't imagine the guilt and pain of loosing your animal because of your own actions.

That's true. I would almost rather deal with the hassle of that though than having my dog dead from being ran over while we were outside for a few moments though.

You wouldn't put your cat on a leash why the different rules? How many cats get run over that your don't hear about? It's just a risk statistic. Sounds like human sentimentality, they are both animals but humans treat them differently because they as owners supposedly know best and how each animal in the jungle behaves.
 
R.E: dogs attacking humans, isn't it the law that if your dog attacks someone it is put down, that's the case here so the result would ultimately be the same.

All animals should be fenced in or otherwise controlled if allowed outside. If you let your cat wander loose, don't be surprised if you never see it again. You may delude yourself into believing it has been adopted by someone offering fresh fish nightly but the truth is that it is dead by auto accident or killed by wild animals.

A friend was walking a few years back from her house to her barn, on her own property with her yorkie right behind her. She heard a cry and turned back to see the yorkie in the jaws of a coyote no more than 20 feet from her. She rescued the dog but he died of his injuries. She keeps the others in the fenced dog run or on a leash now, even though she's just walking a couple of hundred feet to the barn to feed the horses

That is funny. All though I do know some cases where cats have been trained to be on a leash, through home video's submitted to places like Afv

If all cats were fenced in then I guess none would ever get stuck up trees ever again, apart from the ones with irresponsible owners that let them walk about with the choice of self determination. Some will get eaten by other animals, some will get run over by cars, but we as humans could also get run over by cars or eaten by Lions yet I don't see tourists in game parks being lead around on leashes, only in my dreams but they don't count sadly.

I personally wouldn't have an out doors cat, if I ever owned a cat because I think it's irresponsible. House cats kill a lot of the birds in the neighborhood, and they go into other peoples yards, often times unwelcome and shit and piss and destroy property of neighbors yards. In fact my neighbors cats go through my dad's garden and eats or just kills the lizards in the garden, and it pisses my dad off.


One time one of my neighbors cats got trapped in the dodge camper, for 3 days and we didn't know it and he shit and pissed all over the van and make it stink for weeks. And I am sorry he was trapped in there, but if my neighbor controlled her cats, Buckhweat wouldn't of been in our car, where he didn't belong.


As for the law about destroying a dog who attacks someone I don't know if that's the law. It used to be an animal had 3 strikes, and after the third, yes it was in trouble.

Crazy people making rules to eliminate all risks, impossible. The standard practice is to weigh up the likelihood and the consequences of risks meaning reducing risk to a practical level, not a ridiculous level. I could invent a law that will protect you from the risks of stabbing yourself up the nostril with tweezers, obviously anyone caught without hairy nostrils should have a current electric nostril hair trimming license.

Foxes do the same, birds do the same....etc. Thanks for the advice on annoying my nemesis, I must get a cat and only let it out at two in the morning for black ops missions of wanton destruction.

If you kept them indoors, they wouldn't be in the car. Well ok, maybe they could escape, after all they are fast, and they could sneak by you, or someone else could leave a door or a window open or something.

My grandpa had a bad habit of killing the cats his wife collected like some women collect shoes.

One time he ran one over on accident, and once one decided to climb into the engeon and camp out and when he started up the car it got injured.


Well finally he said one time every dam time we get a cat I kill it with the car.

I'd never have the heart to do that, cats need to roam it is in their nature, if I lived in the country I'd own a cat perhaps, since I live in the city with traffic and old people driving cars I'll do without.

Actually, it is to try and cut down on feral cats.  Feral cats are a pestialence!

And humans "natural" habitat is what?  A cave?  Do you eat your meat raw?  Coat yourself with animal fat to keep yourself warm?  The list can go on of what is "natural."

Contrary to popular belief mankind has never lived in caves. A cats natural habitat is the outdoors as is the natural habitat of every creature, no creature was designed to be locked up indoors not even the goldfish.

Edited to say IMOSHO no creature was designed (bad choice of words on my part) but instead evolved naturally through natural selection and they didn't evolve into rat sized dogs, humans did that to them.
