What are you talking about? Did you actually READ the article? He was in "treatment."
The man was convicted July 1, 1977, for aggravated first-degree murder, Kopoian said. He's serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole in the special offenders unit, a part of the prison reserved for treating prisoners with mental health issues.
This kind of response pisses me off. A first-degree murderer (aggravated, nonetheless) is not some poor misuderstood helpless ickle thing that has my sympathy. He is a very bad person who SHOULD be removed from society ~ preferably by his OWN death, but hey, you can't everything.
And YES, I am okay with him slicing and dicing himself up rather than someone else.
Do I think it is funny? In a way, yes. I have no idea what was going through his mind when he decided to John Bobbit himself. Then again, I have no idea what was going through his mind when he made the CHOICE to go out and KILL in cold blood one or more people.
So he is going to suffer. GOOD. He did it to himself.
Sheesh! Things are WAY too PC when we cannot even poke fun at a cold blooded killers self-inflicted stupidity.
The man clearly has a mental illness. They said that he wasn't a threat to himself and he was, clearly so. I did not elaborate here. My take would be lock him safely away without razors! Pretty simple. I cannot imagine that any treatment he has gotten in this system would be any better than some for the poor would be outside of jail and have known of both situations. Therefore I don't consider any theropy he might have gotten of much worth... and seemingly... he wasn't well after said treatment.
I am not anyone who feels sorry for the criminal's... but it isn't a stretch to believe that they might need to be protected from themselves. That would be reasonable to me. I happen to believe that death sentences should be carried out more and yet this man is mentally ill and few states will take them out for their crimes. I have fought for the death penalty having had a personal encounter with someone who was put to death for his crimes.
You and I are not exactly seeing this differently... but I can't understand why a man who is clearly a danger to others isn't placed in a safe place with no way to harm others. I've known a few guards in my time too... many actually laugh about the inmates and are careless. I don't think everyone in jail deserve's being harmed from some guy who is mentally ill and who has a way to get something that can be used as a weapon.
I also think if they are not going to use the death penalty... then they need to assure the tax payers that they will do their job without short cuts that will eventually cost the tax payer more.
