I'll have a crack......

Conservatives value authority.

Conservatives value the discipline of those caught breaking the rules.

Conservatives tend to see no charm in change - presumably 'head of the house' isn't up for negotiation.

LOL, sounds like most dominants I have met. It can be charming, in it's own little way.[;)]

I suppose there isn't the difference between the two that we'd like to believe. The broader picture is democracy, and whom we tax and where we spend it - military or health - it remains tax and spend in a framework of the rule of law and democracy. Sometimes labels are thrown 'round right, left and centre....I mean, the French Tourist Office had this to say about us in 1996: "The English are instinctively conservative and chauvinistic"....and those were the more generous words in a wider statement amounting to the literary equivalent of gratuitous violence :-) It is true that the English vote for the Conservative Party at every national election bar none, but then the Conservative Party is a party that adheres to free trade (as are the other political parties); so, you know, political philosphies share common ground, and people follow suit.

Yes, and I am fully convinced that Obama is as full of crap on this issue as McCain. I'm not one to be afraid to call "bullshit" on members of my own party. I can think of a lot of issues with which I am at odds with the democratic/liberal/progressive stand. That is the difference between a thinking person and a sheep. And no, I am NOT calling anyone a sheep either directly or indirectly so save your keystrokes.

So what makes you think that conservatives can't feel the same way? In your OP you implied that anyone calling themselves conservative supports everything in the conservative agenda. Of course you still haven't provided what that agenda is, but I will ignore that for now.

I don't think anyone is saying that they can't.

The question is why?

Why would you support an organization so aligned with the religious right?

People that basically think you are scum for your lifestyle choices.

I have to ask a question that has long been bothering me. How can anyone who is in the d/s world to the point of being on this board support the conservative agenda. Financial policy aside, it seems these people are dedicated to our eradication. Does anyone think that a group vocally against reproductive rights, gay rights, free speech rights in the matter of pornography are going to at all support the rights of "whip swinging perverts" like us? (in your  opinion),

One of the most vocal and self proclaimed neo-cons on this board has a picture of herself in a corset with her breasts bared.
( SO WHAT )

The ads that support this site link to d/s pornography sites. Do you have any thought that the party that holds up "traditional American values" and align with the christian right wing would hesitate to shut it down if they could? ( and you know for a fact they would? or is it just FEELINGS?)

Do you think that the conservatives have any interest in allowing d/s organizations like TES or clubs like Paddles to exist? Or is it more likely that their desire is to take down these perceived blights on society and marginalize them into extinction? Have you spoken with all the conservatives yet?

Is it just that being into d/s is easier to hide than being gay that makes it possible for you to support an organization that is unmistakably dedicated to our extinction? So there is choice with D/s or gay?
Or is it just a matter of putting the pocketbook before all else?

In short, just as I would ask a black man how he could support the KKK or a Jew how he could contribute to the Nazi party, I ask again, how can anyone who identifies themselves as part of the d/s community support the conservative social agenda? Errr try the first ammendment, Freedom of speech.

No, it's true! In America, you have the Constitutional right to be fucking stupid as a post and support people who are malignant cancers on freedom and the American way... like conservative religious republicans.

Voting for the issues you believe are most important does not equate to supporting an organization.  I am a fiscal conservative.  Right now, in my life, fiscal issues are the most important. That doesn't demand that I support the religious right's beliefs. The Repubs and Dems have become so polarized that it is absolutely maddening.  Those who fit somewhere in the middle are often screwed.  I would like to ask... do you genuinely believe that the democratic party's politicians would in any way, shape, or form support bdsm, sm, or M/s relationships other than in their own closet?

I have already answered that question in this thread.

No, but as I posted earlier in the thread, they do not actively attack those lifestyles, while the Republican right scapegoats and uses alternative lifestyles for political advantage.

Sure they do.  All the time.  Perhaps not as rabidly as the religious right but they do. Democrat doesn't equal "pro alternative lifestyle rights" just as Republican doesn't equal "anti-alternative lifestyle rights."   I don't understand why this is so difficult to understand. Well wishes, Cav's ally

They should meet the pastor at my church. In fact any of the liberals who attend there. Of course if they accepted that just as many christians on the left agree with the ones on the right, it would cut back on the "religious right" bashing. Then what would they gripe about?

Well said. The bashing between the faithful on either side usually leaves people who see some right on both sides and some wrong on both sides branded liberal by one, conservative by the other... and neither party has done a good job of taking care of the country, the constitution, nor the economy.

Bashing?

I posted comments from a certain Republican Senator earlier in this thread that were the epitome of narrow-minded bashing of any type of alternative lifestyle.

That seems to have been widely ignored by those who fashion  themselves as conservative and involved in an alternative lifestyle.

When have you seen a liberal politician spout the inflammatory rhetoric Santorum spoke?

And it could be dismissed as one misguided politician if it were not the same comments that are are repeated by numerous conservative politicians and the religious right of the Republican Party on a regular basis.

If you are talking about Larry Craig, he was a Republican.

Also an outspoken critic of gay lifestyles.

Until he really, really needed a blowjob from another guy.

Sanity -> RE: Conservatives in the D/s Community (2/24/2009 8:10:09 PM)

Larry Craig wasn't an outspoken critic of gay lifestyles, you're making things up.

He certainly voted against every gay rights bill that came up and voted for every discriminatory piece of legislation that came to the Senate.

Yeah, well, that has absolutely zilch to do with the fabrication that rulemylife posted.

Obama is also against gay marriage - so he has to be discriminatory in your view too, though you will never admit it. That's too close to the truth!

Obama opposes gay marriage. However he didn't vote against adding sexual orientation to the federal hate crime law whixch Craig did. Maybe you can see the difference between some for and against votes and all against votes.

Sanity -> RE: Conservatives in the D/s Community (2/24/2009 9:44:20 PM)

Still doesn't prove the fabrication that Craig was "Also an outspoken critic of gay lifestyles."

I dislike Craig - he's a liar, and your typical politician, just like Obama. But Larry Craig never campaigned against or criticized gay lifestyles.

That's just not true, it's a lie.
