It's a fun family activity that gets butts up off the sofa. All good things.

We just get up and go do stuff outside.  Its even better for you.

Okay then Mr Negative!!

We do that also. However, on days when it is negative zero, pooring rain, or I foresee, on an evening when it is still 95 and the mosquitoes are like hungry vampiric clouds, it beats staring like a zombie at the television.

Kalista, I enjoy using the Wii Fit. We got it last year and I'm not sure why people still compare it to exercising 'outdoors', as if a workout done outdoors is somehow more beneficial (other than the 'fresh' air). Exercise, regardless of where it is done, produces benefits dependent on how it is used and the frequency of use.

It has four categories, Cardio, Strength, Balance and Yoga. It will even map your BMI/Weight and provide tips at how you can improve. I cannot get out of the house to 'jog along the roads', my damaged left foot (having it operated on next month) would't allow for that in any case as uneven pavements/hardness of them damages my foot further when walking on it, but I still burn up a good sweat by getting my arse up off the sofa and 'stepping' or 'on the spot' jogging. The benefits speak for themselves, here in the UK the NHS have now provided a service to the elderly to increase their level of fitness by getting them to use the Wii Fit. It caters for people of all ages, for all levels of fitness. It WILL help you improve your balance and posture.

Exactly.

Rarely, is more exercise a bad thing.

Anything that makes exercise and the striving to do better fun, has got to be worth it, as with me, I do not see exercise as fun, it has for me to have a use for it to be attractive. A good walk maybe up on the cliffs or across the rocks, well, I have to take my camera and make the walk/scramble into a photo expedition, or else the exercise has no interest.

The Wii, the game is so friendly, the combination of light and sound, so appealing, almost humourous to be part of it.

Have you started talking to yours yet? I can't help but utter a few adjectives every time I get on it and it shouts, "Ouch!" at me.

I hate that the mii turns around and waves so much when I'm running in place...I always tell her to shut up and turn around!

I played this at a friend's house.  Aye, it might be a bit gimmicky (a lot of folks feel that way about the Wii as well), however, I think that as a supplement to other forms of exercise, it's quite nice.  I know it has a free-step mode, but honestly, if you're wanting to focus on cardio indoors, I whole-heartedly recommend an indoor stationary bike, a treadmill, or my personal favorite:  Dance Dance Revolution (multiple iterations across multiple systems INCLUDING the Wii).  The main perks I see for it are that it allows you actually monitor your sense of balance and perform yoga / bodyweight resistance exercises with supervision (somewhat).  Learning proper form this way could only be beneficial.

I'm not sure of the particulars of your physique or what your short-term or long-term fitness goals are.  But in lieu of this, I can advise you that for most females, attaining the kind of physiques they desire usually involve a variety of activities.  Most desire a physically fit / toned look but without killing the curves.  Usually, a combination of healthy eating, cardio, yoga / pilates, and light weightlifting tend to achieve those sorts of goals.  In any case, good look with your fitness endeavors, Kalista.  Feel free to send a message if so desired.
