Now this is just pure fallacy.

Not ALL Americans are against raising taxes!

(Just those of us who pay them).

I know I’m going to get lambasted by the brain dead ideologues around here but once again I feel compelled to point out simple logic!

When you raise people’s taxes they have less money to spend.  When people spend less money the demand for products and services goes down.  When the demand for products and services goes down businesses lay off workers or go out of business entirely.  Resulting in fewer taxpayers and more people on the government dole (which usually results in Democrats saying we have to increase taxes to solve the problem).

When you cut people’s taxes they have more money to spend.  When people spend more money the demand for products and services goes up.  When the demand for products and services goes up business hire more workers and new businesses are started to meet the demand resulting in more tax payers and less people on the government dole.

I have to totally agree on that.

1) Abolish the privately-owned Federal Reserve, and it's debt-based currency. Issue government's own, US Treasury Notes, interest-free currency and carefully spend it into the economy on federal infrastructure, defense, and basic safety-net programs; and also lend it to commercial banks at nominal interest rates, as needed, to keep the long term inflation and deflation rates at 0%.

2) No tax on labor (wages and salaries). Abolish the 16th Amendment. Individual earnings of citizens made within our borders would no longer be subject to Federal Income Taxes.

3) Abolish the IRS, and all of it's existing tax-codes. Set up a new tax agency, taxing non-labor income of citizens, and corporations.

Tax domestic corporations zero for their first 3 years in business. (No forward tax deductions, or other corporate welfare either.) Then tax 1% of earnings for each additional year in business, up to a max of 10%. Limit tax deductions to documented and audited expenses only. Impose a 10% (of MSRP) import tax on all goods sold in this country that are manufactored by non-citizens.

4) Phase-out Social Security. No SS for new workers. Prior 30 years of workers can option out, or stay in on graduated scale. Older workers within 15 years of retirement are still in.

5) Indoctrinate citizens to save and fend for themselves, which will be a whole lot easier to do with no taxes on labor, or inflation to deal with!

6) Reduce the size of federal government by at least 2% each year for the next 10 years, then 1% per year until the federal government has been reduced to an absolute minimum.

7) Enact a law requiring a balanced federal budget.

8) Make it unlawful to ever again allow private bankers to issue our money.

The people who seem to be against higher taxes are people who are wealthy or well off. But isn't there any concern in righting the economy?

Let's see....work your ass off....get paid....hand substantial portion of pay over to the government...scratch head and wonder why you can't pay your bills or feed your UMs...stand in line waiting for the government to provide for your needs....Oh yeah, don't forget to blame all the wealthy people for your predicament.

No thanks.  I'll just keep what was rightfully mine to begin with and take care of my own self. But hey, if you'd rather, feel free to hand over all your resources and your manhood (speaking generally) over to your new rich uncle....Sam.

~you may find it easier to get busy supporting the government if you get rid of that chip on your shoulder first~

I didn't ask what was wrong with paying higher taxes. I asked if you had a better idea.

You most certainly did ask that.  The title of your thread is, "Why are people in America against raising taxes?"

I'm against it because it doesn't work, it's unfair, and it's just the pursuit of perpetual class warfare.

I want a flat tax or consumption tax of 10%.  Everyone pays; no loopholes, no excuses.....Everyone pays.  In my opinion, that would work wonders for our economy.  It would be fair, and it would force our government to be a little more thrifty with our money.
I'll second that flat tax motion! Perhaps that would eliminate the coming and going taxes we currently have, because we are taxed to death already. You pay taxes on the money when you earn it, you are taxed again on the same money when you spend it (not to mention the BS taxes like the ones imposed on tobacco & alcohol products that are aimed at a select portion of the population, imagine the reaction if they tried that on diapers and formula)...let's level the playing field and pick one or the other.

Edited to add; let's not forget about property taxes as well, the novel idea that you get to pay taxes just because you own it. Great, the same money just took a third hit and it happens every year. NO, we don't need more taxes.

The sooner we get Obama and crew to realize this, (Which is never gonna happen), the better. He's out for revenge against the evil rich people, and after he makes sure the lobbyists, (who he hired to work with him), are gone and get the right people in place, (Many who have their own tax nightmares anyways)... Blast, how can we the people trust him enough to get elected in the first place?

winterlight -> RE: Why are people in America against raising taxes? (2/24/2009 9:33:19 PM)

Let's hit everybody with higher taxes so they can waste our money on pork and other programs that don't work. I have no problem if they tax the rich. As Leona Helmsley said, "taxes are for the little people".  I think people are worried that they are going to be taxed to the hilt.

I have no idea if all people across the financial spectrum will get hit with taxes but if they keep spending on really ridiculous programs how is this going to help? Whom really got us in this mess?
Why aren't they paying for it. Why the bailouts for them when they (insert word) up to begin with? I think some of the people in Congress, Senate etc. have been in there too long and with their special interests haven't done us any favors.
