Who hear truely believes in mind over matter? i for one am a firm believer, but only because i have seen it work with in myself. i have many examples in my life where i have literally mind over mattered what ever it is, but they arent pleasant so i wont cite them. i believe, that if you really want something deep down. No matter what it is, you can do it. And i'm sure alot of ppl will say "but i want something deep down but i cant" i honestly dont think they are truely looking. They're seeing what they want to see, not what the truth is. Okay i have a good example. i would like to quit smoking. But i cant. Why? Because i honestly deep down do not want too. i really think i SHOULD quit smoking. If i really wanted to, deep down, inside of me to quit it would be simple. i honestly believe that inorder to "mind over matter" you have to A want to and B truely want too. i say A and B because i liken them to A being conscious mind and B being subconscious mind. i think if they both work together, you can accomplish anything that one would like to do with themselves. My best example is eating. When i start to get chubby, i generally think "hey i need to stop eating so much" and subconsciously i really do not want to get chubby. Both of them work together and as odd as it sounds my hunger gets killed. i literally am not hungry. Because subconsciously i do not WANT to be. So i believe in Mind over matter. One more thing i believe in is "Where there is a will, there is a way" i so completely believe in that one too. There is no i "cant" there is only "i wont" (and possibly valid reasons for "i wont") but it is STILL i wont. Anyone else believe in these sayings and have seen them hold true? What are your experiences with them?

Well, for the most part...... Mind over matter is what it is....... How many times has someone been proven wrong, admitted to it, and said (and I fuckin' quote...) I don't care; I will BELIEVE what I wanna believe.............. It is heineous really; if they would just fuckin' get it........everything would be ok, ja? LOL, Ron

RG.... Are we talking bending spoons here? I've seen a fairly good documentary where the Russians seem to be able to conquer this feat. LOL! I am with you tho.... I've been teaching this as part of the spiritual path that I teach in for years... experientially, some interesting work in this area is being done through scientific study of quantum physics and chaos and string theories. I have to admit that I am one of the "faithful" on this one. Utop and Ron both good replies....Mind over matter....? I think the only thing that matter's is what is in one's mind. They are hard to change and what matters most is they are focused. Wheter in Love, War, or...Monopoly...lol....I have just stormed BoardWalk. Peace, Kevin

I believe in it, from the stand point of, if a persons goals are in line with there actions a person can achieve amazing things. I don't believe in literal mind over matter. I'd give my left nut for someone to prove that to me, well maybe not a nut, a pinky toe maybe.

Without a doubt the mind can control the outcome of a situation. This holds very true in healing ourself or others, as well as destructing ourself or others.

RiotGirl, sometime you make me think more than KoM does.... LOL Mind over matter..... I do mind.. does it really matter? ....Yes, it does really matter. To some. I too am a smoker. Do I want to quit? Sometimes. I know in 3 days, the nicotine is gone. It's all habit after than. BULLSHIT... whoever said that should be shot. I'm not going to quit no matter what I do till I really want to. I know this, my doctor knows this. So he left me alone about it. Hell even the kids have left me alone about it. Now if only I can get those rehabilitated smoking parents of mine to shut up... LOL But you got ask the question. What mind, is trying to come over what matter? I was told by one idiot that my pain was all in my mind. Mind over matter. Take the pain from my mind, and it won't matter. I of course told him to kiss my painful fat ass... LOL So I really don't know if it's a mind over matter thing. I guess it depends on what we're trying to over come. Fear, pain, embarrassment, anxiety, what? As far as "if there's a will there's a way?"............ more like... where's there's a will.... there's a shit pot full of relative with their hands out...... LOL

Mind over matter can only take you so far. The concept can all lead us to more successful, productive and spirtual lives. Can the mind overcome the reality of death, or taxes??? Heck no! Somethings of material nature are far out of the reach of any mind's control. Too bad...I really would like to accept in my mind that Godiva chocolate has no calories [:@]

Who hear truely believes in mind over matter? ================================= if you don't mind..it no longer matters! just like all my piercings.. just like...i have quit smoking cold turkey twice for people that didnt appreciate it..so i went back vanilla and went back to smoking again.. i can DO about any damned thing i want if i try hard enough.. but some things i refuse to do..and ya aint got enough $$ to make me do it. take care

In all seriousness--(I've been a bit wicked here---sorry), I am a firm believer in mind over matter---I call it visualization--I've used it all My life--every job I wanted, I saw and it happened, when I got pregnant with child, I saw a healthy baby and stopped smoking 2.5vpacks and never went back-- 2 corporate moves with 2 houses of stuff and animals, I saw it and it happened, it is when I have no vision that I feel at sea--adrift. It is when the mind cannot direct the body--

Though our minds can't controll all matter, I do belive in mind over self and evolution. Because of mental determination, we continue to set new world records, invent things that were once only imaginative, and do the impossible. The "Make It WORK!" mentality continues to have the human race conquer the limits. Where there's a will there's a way.

I totally believe in mind over matter. Ive seen it happen in my own life. When I finally get my mind set on something, I make it happen, plain and simple. It is just getting my mind there in the first place. But Ive found, once set on something, the mental pain, the frustrations, the uncertainty and the fear of failure disappear.

Riot, my wording would have been different, but I agree with you. In fact, it's the concept behind 'motivational' practices, that you accomplish what you bring yourself to believe in. I don't believe in psychic stuff, but programming your own mind… sure.

Dr. Bernie Segal has written two books that offer amazing examples of mind over matter. "Love, Medicine and Miracles" and "Peace, Love and Healing". Dr. Segal treats cancer patients. In his practice he was troubled because he had patients that he thought had a very good chance of survival who died....and he had patients who he really thought had no chance of survival who lived. He could not figure out what the reason for this was until he really began to study the "whole" patient and not just the disease. What he came to find out that the factor that seemed to be making the difference was the patient's mindset. To make a long story short....if the patient got the diagnosis of cancer and was of the mindset that they would survive, they did, sometimes against all odds. If the patient viewed the diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence...even in patients whose cancer was of a more treatable variety and had very good odds....they frequently died. He also talked about how anger and forgiveness influenced the outcomes. These books are amazingly inspirational and I would highly recommend them to anyone who has ever had to deal with a serious long term illness, either themselves or in a loved one....heck, I would recommend them to anyone, they are a great inspirational read.
