Barney is also inaccurate they chose the worst meaniest preditor of all dinosordom to play the most sickly sweetest one. T rex's terrorized all the other dinosours, and I don't think trysaratops were the nicest dino's either, They have horns ment to attack with after all.

I think I got a stuffed Barney when I was about 13 ... and it has ruined my whole life. It taught me to be nice to T-Rex and I was never able to develop proper fear of him. I thought he was something to cuddle.

I have now had both my arms, both my legs and my head bitten off by a T-Rex. Sucks really.

Fuckers aren't even purple!!

Folks,

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0009QYSTY/103-7406834-0771019?v=glance

I know a child (4 yrs old) that was given one of these dolls for Christmas. Is it me or is this horribly wrong. One of them has handcuffs!

Personally I think its just representative of the type of young women that are being raised these days (god I feel old saying that! Especially since I'm only 28). I think a lot of young women and girls are getting the message that you have to look like a whore (aka Paris Hilton) in order to get boys attention. Its unfortunate because I think its tacitly reinforced by parents as well.

Just for the record... if Jack is the guy from the Nightmare Before Christmas his name is actually Jack Skellington.

I really don't see anything wrong with these dolls for the teenage group.
But who the hell was idiot enough to give them to a 4 year old?
I am not saying this to think a 4 year old would be influenced by the dolls in any psycological way, but they damn sure could choke on the tiny pieces[8|].

I don't find fault or feel the makers of these dolls are doing anything "Bizarre" by producing these dolls, it is the purchaser or "giver" in this situation I would call to attention.

Yup, nobodies mentioned the small parts cause yet other than bright.

Sensualips -> RE: Does this disturb anyone else (1/22/2006 9:52:45 PM)

I am more disturbed by the fact that McDonalds gives away boy and girl toys with their Happy Meals. One of my son often prefers the "girl" toy so I have to use the drive thru so I can fake his gender. When we go in and request the girl toy, they often look at him accusingly...so I explain just he is a sissy and probably gay too.

Also, Barney is not a T-Rex. Barney clearly has flat teeth, and thus is some type of plant eater. DUH! Even my girlie-boy son knows that.

caitlyn -> RE: Does this disturb anyone else (1/23/2006 8:21:57 PM)

Ok ... now you and the girlie-boy have about destroyed my faith in the accuracy of child entertainment.

First, dude isn't purple, and now I find out that his stuffed likeness isn't even T-Rex.

Can you help me start a support group?

siamsa24 -> RE: Does this disturb anyone else (1/23/2006 8:31:24 PM)

I will help. My hopes have also been dashed. Here I was thinking that Dora, Barney, The Wiggles and all those other shows were for toddlers and very young children and now I find out that they have to be entertaining for adults as well. I had no idea........

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Does this disturb anyone else (1/23/2006 9:02:56 PM)

Siasma, some kids shows are entertaining to adults too see sessame street, However some kids shows are just to stupid that I wouldn't watch them even if I had kids.

I feel that some of them talk down in this cutesie wootsie your a lill kiddy widdy voice and I did not want to be talked down to as a child and I doubt other kids want to be talked to in that awwwwww you're a kid voice, The whole tone of some of those shows is just to talk downish sometimes

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Does this disturb anyone else (1/23/2006 9:04:29 PM)

Sensual that just shows ya how little I don't know about him since I won't watch the show lol.

champagnewishes -> RE: Does this disturb anyone else (1/23/2006 10:10:44 PM)

I grew up during a time when outraged feminist prostested Barbie's unobtainable figure and Ken's anatomy (or lack of). Betsy Wetsy was in questionable taste and parent's were trying to understand the appeal of the Orange Head doll.

When my parents weren't watching and Ken was "at work" I snagged my brother's GI Joe doll to come play with Barbie....after all, he could be posed in many more positions than Ken could and he came with his own weapons. :)

I take full responsibility....I can't blame my parents or my toys...I'm thinking I would have found some kinky way to play with my toys regardless.

As a Mom of an 11 year old...I was more freaked about the fact the Bratz had no feet. My daughter realizes these dolls are merely toys and not something she aspired to emulate. Given the choice between a "good and a bad" twin, she would take the good one every time...That's just the way she is. But at age 4....sorry no way. Age appropriate toys please!

bucky5000 -> RE: Does this disturb anyone else (1/23/2006 11:27:30 PM)

in response to your feelings that kids shows talk down to kids: small children actually respond better to different tones of voice than adults do. the "baby talk" that many people use when conversing with small infants and toddlers is actually instinctual, becuase they pay attention and are better able to hear softer, higher pitched voices. they also like repetitive sounds, elongated vowels, exagerated emphasis, things like that. these are speech patterns that we as adults would probably consider to be condecending, but to a small child, they are much more effective than a regular monotonous adult voice. their brains are designed differently than ours, they aren't fully developed until around the age of 5. kids are also smarter than many people give them credit for. they know when they are being talked down to, and when they are being talked TO. if kids didn't like barney, he would not still be around entertaining them. huge studies have been done by childrens' advertisers....if something wasn;t popular and effective, it would never last.

I like the idea of alternative culture dolls but these are so sexualized it bothers me to see a 4 yr old with them.

Who says they are sexualized?

What concerns me more is the psyco - sexual sterotype thats placed on them when it simply isnt there. In the end anyone could sexualize anything if they wanted. I would be more concerned about the mental well being of the person sexualizing an object, than concerned about a simple doll.

Please give children - and adults - more credit.

Peace and Love

Protect your children from icons or symbols or activities if you question, even for a moment, what affect it might have on their well being now or in the future!

Yes, I know, they will be exposed to these items elsewhere, etc.

Yes, I know, they can't be protected forever.

This is the most distressing statement I have seen in a long time. Protect them? Goodness - children are little sponges, soaking up all the knowledge placed before them. Don't protect them - TEACH THEM.

'Protecting them' can cause untold damage. If they know the consequences and are aware that there are end results you gain healthy and self confident individuals. Wrap them up in cotton wool and you get unsafe, dangerous experimentation as well as the kick back effect ....

Goodness... people have been raised on violence from goodness knows how long. Killing, murder... even Tom and Jerry. If I hear the phrase ' violent video games and films cause violent children' - I will be incredibly rich so please - feel free... If you are really going to insist on dropping a few fundemental religious phrases into the mix, please do so logically and educationally and in context. Otherwise its just fearmongering. Teach - don't impose. Children have their own minds and they are the next generation. Don't use guilt tactics and disappointment - teach them how to use their minds, not to hide in fear of their own ideas.

Peace and Rapture

Why was it more disturbinbg that they don't have feet? I think the whole thing is a little silly, I mean babie dolls wearing makeup? Huge halley beary lips on a little toy? painted toenails on almost non exsistant feet.

yourMissTress -> RE: Does this disturb anyone else (1/31/2006 12:34:53 PM)

OK OK OK all of you...Feline will realize the humor in what she's said once she grows up and away from her childhood and gains some perspective on the matter.

Feline: Toys and childrens shows are supposed to be silly, silly!! What child wants a practical and serious file cabinet for their birthday?
Or asks mom if they can watch CNN for just another 5 min?

My daughter(5) has 2 Bratz dolls, given to her by a family member with no kids. I personally wouldn't waste my money on such trashy toys. However, I do allow her to have them and choose to teach her something from them. I also teach her lots about getting her boosts of self esteem from her own accomplishments and basing her self worth on her insides and not her outsides. Dressing or doing anything else for that matter, for the attention and approval of others is discussed and discouraged in our home.

I also have a step-son(6) that has a passion for weapons. Mainly because they are forbidden at his other home. He is allowed to have them and taught to play with them in a responsible manner. What happens though, is that he buys them, plays with them the first day, and then is back to his dinosaurs, which by the way does NOT breed familiarity with the dangerous and deadly beasts.

Just as we all have the ability to change the channel on the TV (or, Goddess forbid use the On/Off button) so we also have the ability to censor the toys that our children play with.

IMPO the dolls pictured by the OP are most likely found in the collections of pedophiles and less likely in the hands of a small child and that's probably an indication of the designer as well.
