My owner suggested that perhaps (likely) I have an inner ear infection, I am totally dizzy even when not moving. Does anyone know of a home remedy or something that will help? I am doctored out at the moment and just want this to go away. I keep dropping stuff and walking has become dangerous.

Sorry, but that's serious!  You really need medical attention ASAP.  If it's an inner ear infection, you need antibiotics, and if it worsens, it could rupture your eardrum.

There are other things that can cause extreme vertigo, but none of them are to be brushed off and hope they clear up by themselves.

Hie thee to the physician, dear!

Six months ago the same thing happened to me: it was from a virus-thingie called labyrinthitis. It lasted about a week, with serious dizzy moments every so often lingering on for a month. I'm not sure if that's what you've got, but it sounds pretty similar. The remedy is staying very, very still and taking dramamine (that's what the doctor proscribed me). I advise you, when you are prepared to go back to doctors, to see an ear, nose, and throat right away...labyrinthitis doesn't need to be treated (goes away on its own), but my regular doctor was not helpful.

However, dizziness can be a symptom of other yucky things, including an inner-ear infection or really yucky things like MS. You probably should see a doctor sooner rather than later.

Some with fibro get dizzy and many of them thought it was an inner ear thing.  There is also what they call the 'drunken walk', where you are unbalanced.  With me, it was the first sign of some neuro stuff going on and it wasn't the inner ear thing I thought it was.  The only way I know to deal with an inner ear things is in seeing a doctor.  I have had times where I drop things or my arm would fling out for no reason or start to fall with or without the dizziness or like someone is squezing my brain and I just shut off for a moment.  Also... when I am not getting the pain control I need, I can feel dizzy (blood pressure may be a factor) and am clumbsy, often banging in to things because of the pain and sluggish movement.

I hope you feel better fast!  It sounds like you may be in a flare up and my heart goes out to you!

I thought it was a TMJ issue, then the owner reminded me that I had a problem with infected saliva glands a year ago that mimicked severe TMJ pain. I do not remember being so dizzy though.

Edited to add: The past few days my jaw has been a 9 on the pain scale, hard to describe but it feels just.. wrong. It feels sick inside, a bit hot (inside not to the touch), a bit torn apart like ground meat, feels swollen but doesn't appear swollen. When I saw the PA on Wednesday she prodded my jaw (damn her) and I thought that instigated the pain until yesterday when the dizzy hit and hasn't left.

Aw windchymes I'm so tired of doctors. And I don't want a yeast infection (a surety if I take antibiotics) and and and I don't wanna gooooooooooooo.

Isn't there something I can do to make it go away?
Please .

ExKat this isn't coming and going... it's staying. Even when very still I feel like I am falling.

Lockit I can't tell if I'm having a flare up.. I'm tapering off the evil Lyrica and was 'permitted' to return to my previous (and stablizing) Morphine dosage. Thought perhaps it was due to that but I have a low grade fever (which could indicate a flare up but dang it I can't tell).

If I have to see a doctor, am I supposed to see the pain management people? Walk in clinic?

I don't often get sick despite my medical problems so I am at a bit of a loss.

Lastly, those of 'a certain age' I hope you enjoyed the Tommy Roe song!

High or low blood pressure could cause the dizzies...only a doctor will know for sure.

I would call the pain clinic so that they are aware and don't think you are up to something and can tell you what they want you to do.  But they could think it is the medication they have returned to you.  With the different symptoms you have it could be a few things, so please go see someone.  With the fibro or cf fever it is really low grade from what I remember, if the fever is higher I would lean to it not being the fibro or cf, unless you typically have a low temp which many of us do.

Don't you hate this balance beam walk of trying to weigh it all out and figure it out?

And for the Dizzy song... it has been well played at my house! lol

Well I don't want to call the pain clinic (whineeeeeee) because I will not cut my meds again and they probably will assume it is in reaction to the increase. But it isn't. I know that sensation, and this is not it but I don't trust them to have trust in me. Jeez I hope that made sense lol. It isn't related to the medication, only the timing is related.

Yup I often get low grade fevers. I just can't discern if I have an infection going on, and if I do is it an ear infection or infected saliva glands again.

Is this something a walk in clinic is able to tell?

Okies, I truly hate my fear of doctors. Especially when I need to see one.

If no one has a happy home remedy that will fix me up, I will call that damned pain clinic in the morning then trot myself to the nearest walk in place.

Camille,
i am only a doctor in my head....So, please take all the rest with that warning in mind.... Have you tried any anti-inflammatory stuff? When i had some tmj stuff going on before they gave me anti-inflammatory stuff... It would make sense to me with your pain level being as high as it is that it would increase your blood pressure which would then instigate dizziness.  i checked a website and it said to make sure you are drinking lots of water, nothing with caffeine, nothing with alcohol, nothing with sugar...
i hope something helps soon.
Kali

A walk in clinic should be able to help if you don't have a regular gp.  As long as you aren't going for a medication/pain issue you are fine and don't have to call the pain clinic... To be on the safe side, find out from the walk in clinic what is wrong or suspected... don't mention the return of your pain medication... anyone can be forgetful.. hehe  If the dizziness is something from the ear or something like that, you can then call the walk in clinic and ask that they send a copy of your visit to the pain clinic which will show you are being on the up and up and are not breaking any agreement that involves doctor or drug shopping.

Do they have you on any anti nausia medication?  Sometimes that medication can cause jaw spasming or clenching.

Thanks Kalista. I've taken some Advil over the past 2 days, I don't have the bottle at hand and I cannot remember if that is an anti inflammatory atm. I am trying to increase my water intake and my sugar consumption is way down now that all my Girl Scout cookies are gone. ()

Its just so hard sometimes, figuring out if its TMJ, Fibro or my oft infected saliva glands. Heck its just hard sometimes remembering I have of infected saliva glands! I didn't remember til he reminded me.

*I need some kind of Memory Keeper, where I can dump everything for safe and easily retrievable storage*

Um yeah I think I am actually in a flare up, because I'm talking (posting) so much and its awfully hard to concentrate, and I have abnormal run on sentences, and yeah its over compensation for the mental fog.

Thanks to you n Lockit. Sometimes I have to talk (write) it out so I can 'see' whats going on.

I feel a bit like an idiot (literally), and exposed because I am saying too much. Which is another clue in the fibro fog puzzle.

There is a post it note on my cellphone now, to go to a walk in clinic in the morning.

Thanks, and I am sorry for rambling so much and probably not making a lot of sense. And just.. sorry.

Sigh. There is more I want to type, but I'm shutting up for now. Hopefully this need to what is likely 'over sharing' will pass.

Lockit, no anti-nausea but tapering off the Lyrica is messing me up a bit. The side effects from the increased dosage were horrible and weaning off it not fun.

There is actual pain between the jaw and ear, not so much in the ear itself but my jaw never makes me dizzy. Which bounces me back to the Lyrica, that could be making me dizzy but would not be causing this massive pain episode in my jaw-to-ear area. So I cannot be 100% positive it isn't related to the pain clinic medication, only 90%.

Thank you Kalista for understanding that talking = trying to anchor myself, its still embarrassing to be doing that in public though!

And.. my post in off topic about the burger place has me cravingggg a burger but I can't open the jaw enough lol.

A walk-in clinic would probably be able to help; a common cause is a virus affecting your middle ear.

If and only if you know it is safe to take you could try Bonine (which they use for motion sickness)...it (meclizine) is sometimes used for vertigo.

camille....
i actually take ginger root or motion sickness... Drinking ginger helps as does eating ginger cookies (my sister's kids swear by the cookies...i have no personal experience with them).

Incidentally, i would encourage You to call the pain center before you go into the clinic just so they can not accuse You of drug seeking or anything....

I am hoping that by tomorrow morning this all clears up.

Mmmmm ginger, I  had some ginger tea earlier . I adore ginger and could suck on candied ginger all day long. Hmmmm.. might just go do that.

Oh yeah that is just sooooo me, antibiotic seeker, beware of the antibiotic seeker on a rampage!            I swear having to run everything by them makes me feel like a 12 year old.

I suffer from benign vertigo every time I get any kind of an upper rep. If it's really bad, I go get antibiotics. Otherwise I try to head it off at the pass. Neti pots or Sinus Flushes, I use a little personal steam inhaler which tends to clean out the sinuses. Decongestants and anti allergy stuff in case that's the root cause. Nasal sprays.

It could be from the ears but it also could be from the sinuses.

to tell if your saliva glands are acting up ..there is a real simple test....bite into a wedge of lemon if you experience intense pain and are holding your jaw  saying ow fuck, fuck, fucccckkk!!  owwwww!   than you know it is your glands

my face and throat have swollen up on the affected side but I have never experienced dizziness with

Hi, camille----
I'm sorry you're having these symptoms!  Gotta add mine to the voices of those who say go to the doc.  As someone who has wicked bad TMJ issues, I can sympathize with your discomforts there.  I was pondering how TMJ might contribute to dizziness and here's what I've come up with: sometimes pain and/or clenching can cause tinnitis/ringing in the ears.  Perhaps somehow the inflammation and compression in your jaw is so severe that it's messing with your inner ear workings that help regulate balance.  I've had really bad TMJ for a really long time.  I can't say that I've ever been dizzy but I suppose it's possible.
I share your aversion for docs and were I experiencing the same thing myself and attributing it to the TMJ, I'd definitely be resorting to the really good drugs for a few days (It worries me if they've got you on morphine as a standard thing, though) but even I would go if it didn't rectify itself post-haste; sounds really uncomfortable and unsafe.  Go to the doctor, seriously.  And, good luck!  :>

Yikes! Hard limit. Hard LIMIT! Anything sour or tangy has been a hard limit since I was a kid, it causes that immediate reaction of wanting to rip my head off from painful muscle spasms. I always thought it was just part of the TMJ til diagnosed with the saliva gland thingie last summer, just a normal part of a messed up jaw joint.

DK the morphine is for the generalized body pain, the whole package from SLE to TMJ and it is carefully monitored. I've gone from Fentynal, good gawd my brain just blanked out. Um. Hah. Oxycontin, methadone. And the whole softer family of darvocet etc.

The dizziness has passed and I am nearly positive that it was a combination of Lyrica toxicity (bad bad bad drug dammit) and a TMJ problem.

Thanks to everyone for the help and understanding, especially the understanding.
