The stock market just fell below 7,000. About a year ago it was peaking around 14,000. On these boards as in many places, the standard lib vs con crap abounds... like one side or the other is completely at fault. They're both at fault, but the truth is, so are we for continuing to elect them. You can toss figures and quotes around all day long but there are both Dem and Rep fingers in this mess of an economic pie. AIG needs more money after 150 billion in loans. Oil continues to drop but the price at the pump keeps inching back up. Almost every news page I read now is awash with work force reductions. I keep thinking that someday, Americans will hold their political figures accountable. Yet, what I mostly see are the same stupid debates and same stupid finger pointing, the same childish bickering over who is to blame... and it's just bickering. Except for the occasional scapegoat, the politicians themselves walk away scot-free in most cases. Power pendulums swing back and forth. Eventually Republicans will be back in power. It'll take a while though because of the Bush disaster years and because of the gerrymandering Democrats will do these next few years - its ok, the Republicans did it too. I don't see a way to change it. Term limits? If so, on who and how many? Force lobbyists out of Washington? Someone wrote on here once that a friend from France said that the problem with Americans is that the government isn't afraid of the people. I see a lot of truth in that statement. I don't care which way you lean on the poltical spectrum, my question is how do you get the power back in the hands of the people and force some real accountability on Washington?
