The stock market just fell below 7,000.  About a year ago it was peaking around 14,000. On these boards as in many places, the standard lib vs con crap abounds... like one side or the other is completely at fault. They're both at fault, but the truth is, so are we for continuing to elect them. You can toss figures and quotes around all day long but there are both Dem and Rep fingers in this mess of an economic pie. AIG needs more money after 150 billion in loans. Oil continues to drop but the price at the pump keeps inching back up. Almost every news page I read now is awash with work force reductions.

I keep thinking that someday, Americans will hold their political figures accountable. Yet, what I mostly see are the same stupid debates and same stupid finger pointing, the same childish bickering over who is to blame... and it's just bickering. Except for the occasional scapegoat, the politicians themselves walk away scot-free in most cases. Power pendulums swing back and forth. Eventually Republicans will be back in power. It'll take a while though because of the Bush disaster years and because of the gerrymandering Democrats will do these next few years - its ok, the Republicans did it too.

I don't see a way to change it. Term limits? If so, on who and how many? Force lobbyists out of Washington?

Someone wrote on here once that a friend from France said that the problem with Americans is that the government isn't afraid of the people. I see a lot of truth in that statement. I don't care which way you lean on the poltical spectrum, my question is how do you get the power back in the hands of the people and force some real accountability on Washington?

i am a strong proponent of the 'people' re-introducing tarring and feathering and public floggings for all that do not - work for the people that voted them in.

I was thinking earlier today about how to word a Const. Amendment to limit Senators to two terms, Reps to six terms, and prevent both from working to lobby any part of the US Govt. after leaving office.

I think you are too hard on them....Remember they are individuals... it is hard to get a majority to act...especially when no one is really sure what happened...we sure don't know.

Even when a course is clear it is still hard to get 500 plus members of congress on the same page. BUT this is as it is supposed to be... our founders designed it this way... It is to make changes hard...to stop knee jerk decisions... to be sure when changes are made they are more likely to be right.

It works...it just takes time.

Um how bout, act conservatively with your own finances, don't invest money you cant afford lose, don't buy more than you can afford etc etc? All this finger pointing at other people? Who invested in all these places anyway, only the people that work there?

Gee wiz. These posts around here today. Everybody looks outward, nobody looks within. Too scary I guess. If its that frightening to look inward, I think we should turn our own guns upon ourselves. Theres the real culprit. Quick. Lets shoot ourselves dead before we cause more harm. lol

We had a pretty good market prediction thread at the very beginning of last year that we'll resurrect a few days after this coming new year for upcoming new predictions.

My early bet is that before the second quarter of 2009 ends, we'll have seen the Dow slip below 6500. But I gota warn ya....I'm hearing guys on the radio throw numbers out like 4700 - Imagine what the 401k's will look like then

Hey.....How come I haven't seen that thread titled '' Time to get back into the market '' ?
resurrected? Where did it go?!!?

HAR! HAR! HAR!

Collarme Poster number one :   Obama's gonna turn this country around and bring us back to the days of greatness!

Collarme poster number two : Obama's gonna take our guns away and penalize all of us who are successful!

Collarme poster number three : The Democratic congress will re-regulate Wall Street and get things back in order!!!

Collarme poster number four :
We need the Republicans to take back the house!! Phil Graham and Newt Gingrich will provide the leadership and get us back on track - We don't need anymore regulations!!!

Collarme poster number five
: The Repubs!!!!

Collarme poster number six :
No!!! Only the Dems can save the country!!

Collarme poster number seven :
No!! Gingrich and the Repubs!!

Collarme poster number eight :  No!! The Dems!!!

Etc, Etc, Etc....

quote:

They're both at fault, but the truth is, so are we for continuing to elect them. You can toss figures and quotes around all day long but there are both Dem and Rep fingers in this mess of an economic pie

As long as posters one through eight are allowed to mark a ballot or draw an arrow to the name, this country is doomed - Bet.

But wait a minute....maybe if the market falls below 4500 and all the boomers have their pensions and 401k's wiped completely out and they can't retire till ninety....then maybe we'll see a lil' action and a few will wake up....

But for now.....

The Dems!

No!! The Repubs!!

No!! The Dems!!!
