Heh, I weigh a goodly amount already (320, now!) and my lifestyle is sorta in a mid-sedate state...

At MY height, however, a 2000 calorie diet would be a 'maintenance' diet for someone who's... 98lbs. That's not very healthy :P At my current weight and exercise level a maintenance diet is about 4100 calories. Thanks to steroids, however, that's not realistic (I'll gain weight on it)! So I'm trying to eat between 3500 and 3700. If I wanted to really lose while on steroids I'd have to eat around 3000-3200... and that would be slower than normal, anyways.

"Mid-sedate"? What does that mean?

You are right, your baseline metabolism is probably around 3000 Kcal. I used to have a basic formula in my old Nutrition textbook (real Uni, not Joe's Homeopathic Institute and Wheat-Grass Bar); I think it was about 1Kcal/kg/hour for average male metabolisms, so that a 100Kg guy (like me) needs about 2400 Kcal/day for basal metabolism. That's from memory, though, don['t quote me.

The most I've ever been was 245, about 2 months ago. I have been fighting a bad case of Cellulitis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellulitis
(look at the pics; mine was like that, except worse. I had a hole in my 2nd toe that went to the bone. I've had 5 courses of antibiotics since early September. I still have it. The outside bottom heel on my left foot is split) and have had to keep my leg elevated. That, and a penchant for Old Stock Ale, Brooklyn's Black Chocolate Stout, Ten FIDY, and various other high-end  craft beers, caused my weight to creep up exponentially (math joke). So my weight's down to about 230 now, gave up the beers, been eating bunches of fruits/salads/legumes, and I'll be back in my 36 waist jeans in a couple weeks.

So what do you want to achieve?

I like 'mid-sedate' to describe my exercise level better than 'moderately active' because it's less deceptive :P

I do cardio a few times a week, for extended periods, I'm up and physically active every day as well, even when I don't... however I don't include toning exercises, weight lifting, or strength training in exercise, and I don't do it obsessively... I do it because it's fun. "Active" supposed to describe the epitome of athlete, someone who works out a majority of the week, incorporating focused strength and cardio training into the work-out. "Moderately active" is around where I am, and "sedate" is basically someone who walks to where they need to go, and little else, supposedly.

Yup, I use a similar formula (though I have excell to do all the math for me)... I can look up the specifics if you're interested when I'm at my desktop, next.

EDIT: To answer the actual question posed, right now my main goal is to not gain weight. Since I'm on daily steroids this actually *is* a challenge for me. Before having to start them it was to reduce weight further, but now I'm happy enough where I'm at to not make myself miserable while on them to try to continue weight loss.
