I have never seen the lifestyle more devided then what it is now
I think we really need to look at people in bdsm as people  yet we all have differences  but i am seeing movements to make it harder for us to beable to be us
if that is future that we have in store for us so be it  But i do not plan to go down with out a fight of our right to be kinky   what do you think compared to other countries

I think it is true about people in the lifestyle being divided and the increasing trend in countries to whittle down our rights to chose the life we wish to lead. The recent laws in the UK about the type of images you can store on your computer, for example. Not sure how we would go about defending our rights, I think that is one of the problems in addition to actually motivating people to do so. As far as divisions, as long as people have the opinion that their way is the only right way there will be divisions.

well Latex, when Crayola came out, they had 12 colors, then they added 24, then the BIG box of 56, then the really monstrous box of 72--yep each one very different and when some were mixed, they clashed and were "YUCKO PUGH" and when others were mixed they were " OOOHHHH AHHH" but they were still ALL crayons yet separate and distinct coming together for a variety of purposes. When My friends came over, they would all grab their favorite colors and some would fight over the same ones---they would use them in all kinds of different ways--but at the end of the day, they all went back in to the box marked crayons--unless if course some ended up here and there..but you get the point.  We are all like crayons...

What in the hell are you talking about?  My kink takes place in the bedroom.  How you going to fight that "right"???

Hell you're the biggest one here to tell others how to do their kink and how it should be done and shouldn't be done and how monogamous relationships are the one and true and right way to go, so it's pretty laughable when you say you're going to stand up and fight the fight for people's rights to be kinky.

The issue here is I can not honestly say how division is in other countries because I have not lived in other countries to make even a rough guess. The only thing I can opinionate on is each kinkster takes from BDSM that they believe works for them and their partners. There is no division as we are unique individuals with individual desires and tastes for what turns our crank.

What makes me saddest about the BDSM community is that I assumed (yes, I made an ass of myself) that all involved had open minds.  There is such a diversity of likes and dislikes, of kinks, and of relationship styles that I thought that everyone would simply base their relationships on trust and communication and add their own special flair.  Instead there are many who want to preach about the "true" way to live the lifestyle; who want to label and classify and denigrate others for their choices.  Switches are barely tolerated by many and are often told to choose one side of the whip or the other or else leave the lifestyle.  Tolerance is sadly lacking among many, and the biggest actors are those claiming that they are the most real.

I figure live and let live.  If adult partners do something consensually and they are enjoying there relationship then why should someone else try to rain on their parade?  If a partner is having a difficult time with a concept and asks for help that doesn't mean that their relationship is doomed or that they aren't fulfilling their role well.  It means that they know that they can't always handle things in the most balanced way all on their own and are looking for support.  (This is much different than simply whining for attention.)

I have seen some incredible sources of support here on the boards.  I have also seen intolerance, purposeful misunderstanding, and snarkiness.  If the entire BDSM community is protrayed by what we see here then it is obvious that we need to choose our friends very carefully and look for those that will build us up and not tear us down.  We should be a supportive community - a group of people who have decided to live outside the norm, to glory in it, and who have the courage to live our dreams instead of locking them away in the attics of our minds.

Baby I don't agree. It's never been easier. No more scarcity since the internet. Instant communication across the globe. Buying almost anything on-line. Softening gender barriers and an increased open mindedness.
Come live in the UK. We specialise in anarchy.

The larger a group of people the more subdivided it becomes.  The logic of socialized math.

Of course there are more subdivisions (but not subdivided) because the world is a smaller place thanx to the internet. We are far more aware of each others kinks now than we ever were. BDSM is a far bigger community than any of us could of realized before the internet, however, I don't believe time has changed what BDSM is other than given it a formal name and a group to join.

With kink main-stream as it ever has been, I don't think there's much likelihood of it going away anytime soon. Pre-teen idols rock the bondage look on stage. Handcuffs and collars are available at several stores in the mall. Being kinky is a fad that teenagers pass through as easily as any other, and undoubtedly at least some are sticking to it.
Sure, as it gets easier to get, the government is going to crack down more. If a house is throwing bdsm play parties that suddenly have 200 attendees rather than 20, the neighbors are going to start to notice. If finding porn that is against the law is as easy as using google, doesn't it make sense that the government  should step in a little bit?
Some people like to believe the government is breathing down their neck. It makes them feel important to pretend the big guy in the white house (or...whatever the equivalent is in your country) cares about their sex life or business dealings or kooky conspiracy theories. I don't see that trying to enforce laws that try and quench child pornography is all that evil or overbearing...even if I can't get my fanfiction from Australia anymore.
I'm still  a bit surprised to see how many people think that everyone who is kinky falls under this big, happy, community umbrella. We like the same sort of things in the bedroom. Does every couple who likes anal sex automatically fall into a great big happy anal family community? How about plain old vanilla couples...they're probably in the minority at this point, are they a community? Do they all expect everyone in their 'community' to have closed minds?

in my own limited opinion it is wonderfully to be able to have kink and public play parties. the scary thing is that many in America are very judgmental and fearfully of those who are different. i am of the mindset that if you like it and i don't so be it. i accept you as you state yourself to be. i have found it that i am in a surprisingly small minority that is accepting of others and the different beliefs.
