Emotions do not equal snark. Emotions are feelings and feelings are rarely snarky, sarcastic or any 'negative' thing. The brain does all that. I do not like to see emotions dumped on but I sure do get a kick of some of the self-rigtheous people getting a licking of the clever kind. Call it snarky, I find it humorous and informed many times. Much more intellegent and interesting than the chest pounding self-congratualting indignation that so many 'positive' people put forth.

Y'all who think you are better and 'nicer' than others make me sick with your undercurrent judgmental selves.

Fruit flies ? Did she just call us fruit flies ?

If she did, I completely want to be let out of that "squash like a bug" comment I made a few days back.

Actually, I really don't.  The comment I made, while it probably was in poor taste, ended up leading to a pretty interesting conversation on and off of the thread.

Anyway, some of the comments that I do make would definitely fit the snark category.  When people lose every shred of common sense (somebody else already mentioned that 'live in the basement for a month' thread) that they should have been born with, sometimes, snark is the only way of smacking that sense back in them with a clue by four.

Other times, the snark is a way of getting the message conveyed without sugar coating the truth.  That happens a lot in those thread when it comes down to "yes, I already knew that, but I needed other people to tell me."

Times different than those, snark can be a way of showing someone just how serious the topic at hand might be.  Like maybe unsafe variations of certain forms of play with safety pins, rather than sterile needles.  I'm sure My answer came off as snarky, but the advice that I gave about proper medical equipment, finding someone to learn from, and the book I recommended was actually good in content.

So, even though I do admit to being a huge pain in the ass, I haven't had My wings clipped......... yet.

Or they have an intimate encounter of the worst kind with a possum, porcupine or skunk and come running inside the house?

All the while whining and whimpering because they are so miserable and want you to share the misery!

Snarkiness is a sign that one is using their emotion over their intellect.  It's fun and self afirming to put down others.
There is nothing wrong with expressing emotions, unless we're talking about a scientific study having nothing to do with humans, IMO...

Additionally, I hope you're not saying that a response that expresses emotions is necessarily what people are doing when being snarky.   Au contraire, snarkiness always comes accross to me as an intellectual put down, like saying duh!.
I'll never throw the first stone, being a sinner myself...  But I don't think that behaving intellectually detached while condescending to someone is any less a feed to the ego needing to be superior.    M

And, of course, sometimes a witty snarky comment is just plain fun. I think I'm seeing a groundswell of support here for snark that makes one snort a good nose douche.
