We've seen a few posts about posts: snarky, nasty, none, repetitive blah blah blah--we've even seen Mod 11 make reference to the fact that the "fruit fly effect" is annoying--I for one am guilty, I am sure of posting "huhs?"--My living is 100% between conference calls and emails--so I skim, I have to--and I assume the purpose--which I have seen in the long run misses the point or is waaaaaaaaay off mark.  However, I see others who post and it still misses the point. I want to be more constructive so what is it posters expect to see from posters? Education, opinions pro and con, humor, nothing?

well my thread on sleeping on the floor generated nothing but good responses, interesting points of view etc.  i have just started another thread on my hard limit...am wondering what kind of response that'll get...  As always when i get the balls to start a thread it is because i am genuinely needing advice, or really interested in other's opinions.  So opinions, pros and cons, experiences, humour etc

Having said that, if there is a thread that seems obviously fake...then i am just as guilty as you lol!

I'm usually looking for different points of view that I haven't considered before...

Not that I will adopt those points of view, necessarily, but it's interesting to know how other's think and perceive things. I've learned stuff that way.

I'm guessing that some don't want a debate, they'd like emotional support or some sort of validation that they aren't nuts or something.

That's probably not my stronger suit, as I tend to play devil's advocate a lot.

I would love to see intelligent discussions of issues.  Friction is not a bad thing and disagreements are also not a bad thing...as the saying goes,"you have to stir the pot to make a good stew".  So I am all in favor of "stirring the pot" with ideas, analysis, facts, and maybe just a little bit of poetic license"...  :)   However, and believe me I'm far from being a prude, maybe too far, but I don't see the point of using expletives in an adult discussion...but hey, I'm from a different generation and a different style of debate.
I certainly will be as vocal as ever and my opinions 180 degrees opposite many here, but it doesn't mean we can't treat each other civiliy and maybe learn a few things from each other.  No one has a monopoly on good ideas...I think it was Obama who said that...and it was something we use to say every day in making cold calls to customers years ago.

I usually want discussion on the Idea that is being presented not on the individual posting it. I offten see people post directly about the OP's life rather than on thier own experinces. At times it seems that people tend to judge the poster and their decisions rather than their own experiences on what the OP discussing.

I find that when an OP feels they need to defend themselves and the Nasty Comments start flying the whole thread just gains momentum in a downward spiral.

I want to see thoughtful insights either from there own lives or there thought on the topic presented, i dont want to see somone take the op life and start debaising him/her for no other reason sometimes (it seems this way but it may not be) then to tell them what wrong with who they are but not how to fix it and or offer information on the topic at hand. i can speak on that last comment from experiance in my own threads ive started......... *painful memory of a night humilation*    ....... that what i would like to see

I want people to agree with me and tell me how smart I am or...I want to convince them they are wrong and admit how stupid they are.

Now... how is that for honesty?

I am of course having fun but deep down you all know I'm right.

Actually Butch you are wrong and I can demonstrate your wrongness with a pie chart giving you a percentage of how wrong you are compared with a percentage of how right I am. If you don't accept that then I'll have to resort to bar graphs in the shape of pyramids, cylinders or whatever else Excel 200# can throw at me.

Uhh... yeah yeah, I like fly-fishing.  It's not so much the fishing.  Or the flies.  It's more the waders... and the fresh air.  I love fresh air.  What?  Where were we?  Oh yeah: here's that clip from the film everyone should be talking about.  Makes West Wing look like  I Love Lucy.  And as you know, I do love Lucy.  So very very much.                                                                                                                                                                                                      http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/video/2009/mar/04/in-the-loop

Agreed.  I was thinking of something that kind of runs parallel to that and that is giving more weight/consideration to certain posters no matter what they say while refusing to engage with someone who happens to give a helluva of an answer.  LA has said many times that it drives her up a wall when she'll post something and then a dominant male will come behind her and basically repost what she did and the ladies fall all over themselves telling him how wise and great he is.

Granted, LA also gets her share of praise (which she rightly deserves).  However, I feel very insightful answers are often given by those who aren't the toast of the boards, so to speak, and they just fizzle and die with no discussion because they didn't come from certain people.   Oftentimes I read (and, hey, even rarely write) a superb response and it's like "Is this thing on?"  But others who give half-ass answers (or worse, make it and every answer into a joke) get praised for their wisdom.  Aaarrgghhh.  That's sad to me........................luci

As far as I can tell, most people want to be told they're right no matter what. Very few have the grace to accept that if everyone else thinks they're wrong, they probably are.

But it's been a long day so I may be more pessimistic than usual.

I expect posters to let the thread have the path it's going to take.  Once a thread is created, it's going to have a life of it's own, until it dies.

I guess that's why it doesn't bother Me so much when some of My threads flop.  LOL.

I have had sucessful threads and ones that flop. I dont expect anything. I dont expect people to always be intelligent or know what they are talking about . I expect judgement . Its human nature. I want to be able to funny, sad, insightful, idiotic or whatever they want to be. People come  to vent and advise. My favorite threads are the ones where people can show me and reveal themselves. The ones that let me know their sadness, frustrations, happiness and acomplishments. Those, I believe, are the successful threads and the ones where we create community. The ones where no one ever agree and just argue their points are all  fine and good. But they dont bring us together as humans .

I would wager that most people feel like that occasionally, though, in both instances.

I don't think it's anything personal, except in some rare instances, but our tendency might be to wonder about that as a possibility because we don't have any other good explanation besides randomness...maybe.

yep yep.

I like humour combined with wisdom, serious stuff mixed with some snarkiness, unfamiliar views wrapped in almost poetic prose.... all of it.

MOST of the time, I take SOMETHING away from the threads, even if I think the OP is full of shit....

of course, there ARE exceptions...
