I havent been south in AGES... and with my current automotive issues (no overdrive left... roughly $900.00 -ouch- to have it rebuilt), I doubt I'll be able to any time soon *sigh*

That sucks...what do you drive?

Right now I'm facing replacing the tensioner and air compressor on MsKitty's 2000 Jimmy...and of course an oil change. But I can do that myself. We also need to have a seal replaced in the back end of the drive shaft. On the way down here it was a bitch because our fuel pump finally failed completely ($750 plus tax on that one) and earlier this year we had to replace the shift cylanoid between 2nd and 3rd as well as the rotors and pads on the back end (that ended up near $1100). And thus...we had no money. Other than though the Jimmy drives great. After I get this work done the "James" should be good for another 100K miles.

Not if I can help it..LOL

Actually, my knowledge is really limited.  I used to have an 80 Silverado that I did some work on (spark plugs, oil change, minor stuff like that), but this fuel injected system intimidates the hell outta me.  I'll add fluids as needed, but the rest I pay someone to do (well, when I can afford to). That reminds me.,. I need to get a heater coil put in,....

I was intimidated at first as well. My big scare was changing the serpentine belt. Once I did that myself I got comfy doing other stuff. Don't get me wrong I don't just jump in and say "I'll figure this out!". I spend a lot of time researching and calling local mechanics (when we were in Michigan) harassing them about things I needed to know to do the minor stuff myself. The other big advantage (that I'm about to loose unfortunately) is that my grandfather has always owned GM vehicles. So when I said "hey I changed the damned belt on this thing, why is it still squeeking?" He popped the hood and said look at these things they're old and need replacing...it's not hard this is what you do...by the way...want me to check your tires?

So I feel comfortable doing that much. It's important to me to know how to take care of what I have on my own to a degree because I hate being run over financially by some jerk with an attitude. I'm paranoid about mechanics lol

I never minded working on the vehicle (to the extent I could).  I don't have the tools anymore to do even basic stuff aside from tightening screws and 1/2 nuts..  seems they grew legs when I had roommates move out.. *sigh*

I CAN change a tire though.. pretty damned quickly too!! LOL

The boi’s sig line….

…is a response to the common Christian view of “God”. Recently, there was a thread that brought up abortion, right to die, pulling the plug, and executions. Of course, these are highly charged topics. What I found very interesting was that abortion because the pick up topic…the derail per se…and the major part of that discussion that got picked up was a father’s (man’s) responsibilities and rights. Which makes sense to me…we’ve all argued and heard arguments about women’s right on this topic but not often is a man’s rights discussed, though his responsibilities are often talked about ad nauseam. The basic conclusion is that if a man chooses to have sex and help create a living being, then he should take responsibility in that and have an active role in his children’s lives. So here’s my question…

What makes the Christian God the exception to the rule? Why does He not have to be responsible for being an active figure in His children’s lives?  What makes God any different from the average dead-beat Dad?

I ask this and often people respond with “fee will, of course”. But children have free will as well when they are developing and a father is still held responsible for the product of that development. So there goes that argument. The Christian God does not take an active role in the development of man at all. As a result, like some children, people begin to have an anger at God’s lack of involvement and lack of responsibility for His creation. Some become agnostic, some simply become angry Christians.

So that’s the explanation of my sig line currently. “Momma” refers to Earth.

Comments?

Of course this type of view makes Hinduism like "My big fat Greek wedding"

I gotta say GT, my Gm vehicle is gonna last me far longer than the average 10 years of a foreign vehicle. My grand parents have always bought GM (except for one jeep and one Ford and that was it) and they have ALL lasted longer than any foreign car their coworkers have driven.

And these people complaining about "oh they don't hold up"...they should really try taking care of their vehicles for once in a while instead of driving them into the ground, treating them like shit, and expecting them to hold up against that kind of treatment.

Fuckin AIG getting more cash and is STILL likely to go under completely...ugh!...been one of those mornings.

yeah, I hear ya...

I had that 80 Silverado.  The engine was in great shape when the trans died.  I'd probably STILL have that truck if I could have afforded to replace the trans...

Boi Jen,

When I read your new sig line I thought of the Dianic Wiccan Priestess Z. Budapest and her poetry.  Have you heard of her?

No, Vendaval, I have not but I will look.

GT I'm technically on year 10 of the Jimmy but we'll go with the model year, year 9. The vehicle has the SLE engine in it and really I haven't had much of a problem with the trans. Gotta take care of those seals and not let some asshole keep driving it when he doesn't stop completely before shifting into reverse (killed the torque converter but made him replace it...user created problem there). And it's got a lot of time coming.

In my limited experience with any vehicle, GM has taken responsibility when there's a manufacturer's defect or a need to recall. Any group that makes a product has issues they need to fix, it's why an experience vehicle buyer will tell you not to buy the first year of any model...they still have issues they need to work out.

BTW what were you quoted when the trans gave out? And when did you give it up?

boi
