The Internet really has killed journalism [&o]

Who could have figured that she gets all of her news from FOX.

I love how she paints the picture of ProDommes ...you know foreplay and sex...it doesn't matter that the majority of these women don't actually have sex with their clients in any form (that includes oral Mr.Clinton).

"Being “glamorized hookers,” as they’re often called, is not easy money."

The writer is correct that it's not "easy mney", but I don't ever recall a Domme being called a "glamorized hooker".  As has been said in this thread, a good FemDom is an outstanding analyst of male needs...from a deep desire of a submissive to serve and please a dominant and the joy it brings (freedom even). It goes well beyond "kink" which is what too many think it's all about.

Further, I believe this writer is also very demeaning to "working gals" in the way she used "hooker". Of course I understand that in the vernacular of the street that term is generally applied.   Of course like every profession there are many who are dishonest in their trade. However, I have known many woman who worked at both professions and once you got beyond the superficial you often find a mature, common sense thinking single woman who is facing the challanges of life square on, and  is often supporting a child or children, paying her own rent, and checks in a few times a night with the baby siter.  None of these are a "burden to society", don't beg for the government cheese, and have probably done more to keep  men in a marriage than Doctor Phil could ever imagine.

I hate it when vanilla journalists do reports on the BDSM lifestyle.  They rarely, if ever, paint it in a fair light.  Most people who read that crap already have a negative view of the "sex industry" as it is.  They make is sound like any bimbo in high heels with a need for cash can be a dominatrix.  These dingleberries don't know the first thing about what goes into our dominance and submission.  It's like saying any dipstick can be a doctor because they never miss an episode of "ER", "House", or "Grey's Anatomy".

"Glamourized hookers"...good grief.  I've never heard that term, either.  That must be a vanilla phrase.

Hmmm.  Having read these comments first, I was surprised at the article.  I didn't think it was that bad.  I did like how she explained that there's an interview process: that you don't just walk in, take off your clothes, get shackled up and beaten -- the ProDomme needs to learn your specific wants, needs, and limits first.  In fact, if many women actually are driven to try it do to the recession, my main worry is that many of them will be untrained and not very knowledgable about the subject, and could make dangerous mistakes or at least just tarnish the image of the more professional women working in the area.

Also, that they'll be competing for dollars with the existing ProDommes, whose clients will already be reigning in their spending.  I would think it would be an industry that is more likely to shrink than grow during serious economic hard times.  I could be wrong -- the stress might drive people to seek out the relief of sensual pleasure more often -- but with less money available, I think a lot of Dommes may have to consider charging less if they want to keep customers coming.  Well, we all have to tighten our belts, I guess....

 Yea Buddy. :)

Its the "Gams for GOP" marketing campaign. I mean, they gotta do what they gotta do. Most of the people they lauded, applauded, endorsed and heralded are in jail, under indictment, investigation, or soon will be. The whole "Jesus" thing ain't selling like it used too so they have to go back to the age old standby, "Sex sells". :)

(They claim very high ratings, should any red blooded American male question why? ) :)

This shouldent be suprizing. Might as well just up and call it 'T&A news' and be honest about it ..... "Stay tuned cause after the break we will be covering the obama economic recovery plan. Join us as we take our cameras live to the beach and ask women in bikinis what they think'

If you like the last vid, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoY0ovunzok as they run a crime story and instead of showing pictures of the man in question, or mugshots, or the guy being lead in handcuffs outside the police station, they instead run stock footage of the inside of a strip club

As opposed to what....a BDSM journalist?  [8|].  I read the article, and I didn't see anything negative about it.  In case you didn't know, Yvonne K. Fulbright has these qualifications:

Ph.D., International Community Health Education (with sexual health focus), New York University; M.S.Ed., Human Sexuality Education, University of Pennsylvania; double BA, Psychology & Sociology, Penn State University
http://www.aasect.org/viewlisting.asp?ID=1320

Yeah, she's a PhD and received her education from an actual accredited university, not a bullshit, mail-order college like many BDSM "experts" you'll find on the internet claiming to be sexologists (Gloria Brame).  Here's Dr. Fulbright's website: http://www.sexualitysource.com/

For those that criticize the article because of the source (FOX), she also has written articles for the New York Times, Men's Health, Cosmopolitan, Maxim, and many other respectable periodicals.  Like I said, I found the article well done, and I didn't see anything negative about it.

Actually, a lot of "bimbos" do exactly that.  If you think everyone getting paid for pro-domination work are expert practicioners or even remotely interested in this as a lifestyle choice, than you're living in a fantasy world.  A lot of amateurs are doing pro-dominatrix work out of motel rooms for extra cash, and it doesn't take much expertise to do it.  BDSM is a fetish and although many of us get a little more into it than others, there are plenty of folks that just dabble in it.  It doesn't make them less than you.  The delusions of grandeur that I see among many of my fellow kinksters really is laughable at times.

gr8ness2006 -> RE: Fox's Sexpert states Pro-Domme a recession choice for women (4/23/2009 11:02:38 PM)

Wow is this really what is considered journalism now-a-days to Fox. As many journalist would agree, this is little more than an opinion piece because as individuals will notice throughout this piece the author seems to make very vague references to sources while never actually saying who they are; conversely, Fulbright would be better served to actually name such the source of who is speaking with quotes such as with the statement in the very beginning saying, "The toughest job you’ll ever love." Such vagueness must lead the reader to assume these sorts of statements are of her own personal feelings and not that of someone who is a professional dominatrix.

Also the informed reader must question the writer's intention in writing this article when Fulbright makes sweeping generalizations about them as a whole stating, "While offering the glorified, Hollywood-style dominatrix experience, these women handle what some call girls and prostitutes can’t or won’t. So is it any wonder that many mistresses and clients consider this a bonding experience?" This is clearly an example of Fulbright mocking and degrading these woman in such an egregious way. After reading this article individuals would be well served to do their own personal inquiry into the subject matter with a clear mind much unlike Dr. Fulbright.
