"Barbie has changed quite a bit over her 50 years. She's been a princess, a mermaid, and most alarmingly, a NASCAR fan. But she's never gotten inked up...until now. That's right, kids. America's sweetheart now comes with tattoos, and some parents are outraged.
The Buzz is alive with articles on "Totally Stylin' Tattoos Barbie." Some parents remarked that they wouldn't buy a Barbie with tattoos, as it encourages girls to show off their bodies. To be fair, the blond bombshell doesn't come with tattoos already applied. It's up to the kids to attach the stickers where they see fit. The tattoos look to be the standard collection of hearts, stars, and butterflies. Sadly, there are no "Death Before Dishonor" or "Semper Fi" tattoos.
The doll also comes with temporary tats that kids can attach to Barbie's clothing or to themselves with a handy-dandy applicator. Despite the outrage, Barbie-maker Mattel has no plans to discontinue the doll. In fact, tatted-up Barbie is selling well. Searches are also moving at a brisk pace. Over the past day, queries on "tattoo barbie" and "buy tattoo barbie" have taken off.
It's also worth noting that this isn't the first time Barbie has done something controversial. A few years ago, Barbie's best friend Midge was pregnant. After parents complained, Wal-Mart pulled the doll. Stay tuned to see if tattooed Barbie suffers the same cruel fate, or if Mattel keeps it real."

Status: offline 		The barbie does not come tatooed. They come with those silly litle butterfly wash off decals that most little girls love anyway. You dont have to put them on your barbie or yourself. The hoopla is reciculous.

lol, as if kids don't take scissors, magic markers, stickers, and glitter to those dolls anyways...

Status: offline 		My kids have no piercings, no tats and no desires for any. Okay the daughter has her ears pierced.
But they used those decals on themselves all the time when little. Hell I've used them, and I don't have any tats or piercings except my ears.

I've known little kids with lazy eye who only agree to wear the patch if they can decorate them with stickers. I don't think they all grow up to have body art done on their eyelids.

(ok, well now I have 4 tattoos, so that may be a bad example)  

It's not like she has a big heart with "Mother" in the center of it.  *sigh*

Status: offline 		One of the Goth guys from here does serious alterations to his Barbies, dresses them up like whores.  I always thought the body ideal of Barbie was completely ridiculous and not possible unless you were surgically altered. 
 
It is up to the parents and the rest of the hoo-hah is about a plastic doll.  There are more important things to worry about if you are raising young ones.

Status: offline 		There are some great-looking modified Barbies on e-bay. Do a search for OAK - that's One of A Kind - dolls and you'll be amazed at the depths of depravity.  OK, maybe not amazed.  Perhaps amused, though.

Those "outraged" parents probably don't buy their kids Barbies anyway.  I really hope no one tries to organize a Barbie Burning - the toxic fumes from the plastic would be nasty.  Now if someone wanted to set up a Burned At The Stake Barbie, that would be very different :D

Well, maybe you, phoenix and poen can start a new Barbie series...the "beaten-up-barbie" with "Master Ken"
Am sure that would make some headlines

I was never a Barbie person..or well, I never got one...so I continued to play with my friends in the forest etc...was cheaper and nice as well...

Status: offline 		GIJoe (the original) always had a tattoo, and many of the later action figures had them too.  I don't see what the big deal is either.  It's not like girls don't know about tattoos.  When I meet a woman under 45 that doesn't have one, I am actually surprised.

yep...these are the same parents who prefer to give their kids the "perfect" Barbie and Ken dolls, so the little girls can view good ol Barbie as the "ideal".

What will they do when the child outgrows Barbie...begin to buy Cosmo magazine so the kid can then model herself after the cover photo?
