When I listened to President Obama's last major speech, I thought, WOW he is trying to do to much. This very subject was on one of the news shows this evening. I feel President Obama has such major issues and decisions to tackle, and now taking on health care is just way too much. Yes, yes, yes I voted for him. I also said that I knew I would not agree with everything he says or does, and I won't "pretend" not to see or question his policies when I don't agree with him. Slow down President Obama, if you keep this pace up, your hair will be snow white this time next year! Anyone else thinking, slow down President Obama, tackle the major issues WELL, and don't spread yourself so thin?

He's trying to push thru as much of his agenda as possible before the midterm election in 2010.

I've become very cynical about him the last few weeks. Either he's too dumb to see what the real problem is with the economy, or he's smart enough to clearly see that it can't be fixed quickly. Since he's clearly not dumb, the more logical possibility is that he's just trying to get in as much hay as possible before the rain starts.

Nope not me. Keep on, keepin' on Obama! Please by all means, succumb to naivety and go for the gusto. Next year; when the Republicans take back the Senate and House, the American people will get their reward.....a divided government that can't get shit done and can't further interfere in our lives. Hooray!

Th executive branch is more than one man and this president has assembled a very capable staff. He inherited a once a century economic crisis with additional long ignored crisises that exacerbate the economic turmoil. To get the economy back on track he needs to resolve the credit problems, the real estate crisis, the energy crisis, the un and under insured problem and the investment failures of big business that has been creeping up on us ever since the early 80's. Tackling one at a time simply won't work. We need solutions to all or at least most of them before the economy can begin expanding again.

I agree that his current agenda and the pace which he is trying to accomplish things is bold to say the least. The other side of this is that America is broke. In all senses and forms. Health care, our penal system, drug laws, sex laws, infrastructure, schools, Medacaid and Medicare, Social Security, losing/stalemate on two wars. The FDA, FCC, FBI, CIA, NTSB, NASA and others all need more funding, retooling and are top heavy with bloated idiots. And then of course we have Wall Street, mortgage crisis, dependence on others for oil, global warming and the list goes on and on. We, the country are sinking. Trying to tackle one issue at a time is not really an option, in my humble opinion. God be with him and all the rest of us. :)

Obama is racing to legislate his agenda by using the economic crisis to create fear and confusion, particularly fear. He is just following the game plan of his Chief of Staff Rahmbo Emanuel,*"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste."* That quote seems to have replaced "Give me liberty or give me death" in terms of usage these days. Of course Obama is "rushing"...he is a shrewed operator and knows full well that popularity is based on "whate have you done lately" mentality of the voter". As the vague, but impressive to some, one word platform of "Change" becomes more clear, as his radical shift in the path of government to far left politics becomes better known, discussed and exposed for what it truly is, Obama understands that his already slipping popularity will run out of steam. Even the "energizer bunny" comes to a stop eventually. The number one crisis facing the country is the financial system. If that is not addressed the country will indeed witness a deep and prolonged depression not seen since the 1930's. He has the wrong guy in his Secretary of the Treasury, a man who has done nothing to bolster confidence that the administration has any sort of plan. All we get are ideas thrown up against the wall hoping something will stick. It was no secret for the past year, certainly for the past six months that we are in a financial meltdown. However, Obama did not promise "results"..only "change"...and that is his primary focus...his agenda of social change in America that will "change" our country forever...and quite possibly the republic itself. His mind is closed on healthcare, education, energy, climate, entitlements, ...and runs full speed ahead giving the responsibility for writing legislation to Pelosi and Reid ( who can than hang as much pork on it as the line will bear to hold). The man has "accomplished" only one thing in his life in society...a "community activist"..and now we have a "community activist" on steroids as our President. Neither republicans or democrats have a monopoly on patriotism and common sense. Moderate members of his own party are starting to express concern so, hopefully, this mad rush to the radical left will be bound and gagged and put back into the box in the near-future. The country is on life support and we can't risk having this man in the Oval Office pushing through his radical, big government will run your lives better than you can, agenda.

For example, we've just found out in written documents that the Bush administration, within days of the 9-11 attacks, decided to use that crisis as a means to vastly increase the powers of the executive branch. It also figured out a way to make these changes permanent by declaring a war that could be extended forever. Obvoiously that's change neo-cons can believe in. Oh...and I'm not at all disturbed that Obama was a community activist. Maybe it isn't such a bad thing to have a leader who has seen what happens with people who aren't in the ruling elite and actually has some knowledge of what Americans outside of the top 2% of the wealth curve live with. Personally...I'm glad to see a president with ambition, drive and goals. It beats hell out of one who's idea of doing the job is running off to his ranch to play cowboy.

Hey Spinner...I guess you don't recall the horror, fear, frustration, anxiety, and determination to protect our country that was the prevailing mood of those days after the Towers were destroyed by terrorists. George Bush did what Americans expect of their President..HE took his responsibility as the leader of the country, to bring EVERY resource available in counter-terrorism together to ensure that we were protecting ourselves against any further attack at that time, and future attacks that might be in planning stage. As much as we think of our "self importance" here, we will probably never know, and have no need to know, for fifty years what actually was going on behind the scenes to protect you, me and our families. Through most of the past eight years, we had democrats attacking George Bush not only here but in foreign capitals, demeaning our troops in the field as they did during VietNam, declaring the war lost while, in fact, progress was being made, and doing everything they could do to undermine the Bush administration politically during a time of war...two wars. These are the slime that is writing legislation and the radical who will sign it into law that will change our country forever. As far as extending these aggressive anti-terrorist progams, to extend them by declaring a war that would last forever, again you distort reality. Muslim extremists have had their agenda of uniting all muslims for hundreds of years with the murder of Sadat a pivotal point in recent history. Their fight will not be ended by sweet talking Barack. What you and so many Americans fail to understand is that jihad does not have a timeline! Americans put everything on no more than a 12 month calendar it seems to me with very little patience or enthusiasm for protracted "anything". "Do it now, do it well, finish it and move on" is our credo...unfortunately we still have lessons in the current reality to be learned. I am so happy that you are delighted with a man whose job interview went well.. a young man with ambition, drive, and goals. Demographics were such that even without work, most families could grow enough to stay alive. We don't as a nation possess the ability to live that simply any more... and I know how simple it was. I grew up with grandparents who mentally never made it out of the depression. I may not have lived in the 1930's but I have a good idea of what a household was like then. Running water limited to a gravity fed pipe in the kitchen with no other indoor plumbing, the only heat in the house being the wood stove in the kitchen, virtually everything you ate coming from what you raised, caught or hunted, clothes from grandma's sewing machine, plowing with mules - the list can go on and on. Even if we had the mindset and the fortitude to do so, most no longer have the land or the knowledge.

I made a similar comment on another thread. The current economic crisis is not due to one part that is broken as in the dot.com bust or the S&L mess. It's ALL broken. All parts of the economic cycle are in trouble. He really has no choice but to spread himself thin because the problem is SO large.
