i have sat in moving cars and looked up the moon. As i am trying to connect. Only once or twice have i felt it and i usually dont notice it till afterwards. But as i am connecting, i see my life run by and i am no longer where i am. i am running through 10 years or 4 years of life. Playing catch up with my moon. LOL i as it dawns on me, i am not with myself is when i come back "down"

On a postive note, i am pretty sure others in this lifestyle are able to do it. On a more determined, skilled way of it. i've heard of others floating off during a scene, but then i'm not completely sure if i have this right. i think subspace may in a way, be a form of disassociation. Though i could be completely using the wrong word here. Then again, maybe not.

Can anyone else explain? Anyone whose been there that can explain a stey by step process of achieving it and what excatly are you achieving? And granted there can be alot of negativity when it comes to this word. But that is not the topic i am asking about. i'm asking about those who purposefully do it and for a postive reason.

thanks

Welcome to walking the moonbeams RG. I do it often either through meditation or with the aid of shananic drumming and even chant. For me the latter is a spirit journey to wherever I need to, perhaps the underworld to help recharde my power/totem animals or perhaps to journey to join my brothers in spirit. I use the former for regeneration and cleansing of my being and innerself or some times just to enjoy walking the moonbeams (or dancing on them). Mayhap we may meet there some time.

I can't help but think there's a link with meditation.

BTW, the word 'loony' has the same root word as 'lunar'. People who were 'off in space' were believed to be affected by the moon.

Hmm… Either that or PMS. (laughing)

I don't think I could explain how I acheive subspace since it's all a very fluid movement. What I can tell you is the physical and mental indicators that signify the transition. It's nearly the same trance state that I get when doing a deeply probing spiritual ritual (which BDSM usually is for me). I don't consider it disassociation. I feel that I am moving more closely in tune with things, if only on a psychic plane when I enter subspace.

Ok, here it goes...
It typically starts as a mild euphoric sense of floating outside of myself and my immediate experiences and of being very close to master, of being able to anticipate what he'll do next without knowing for sure. From there it drifts into a more intense feeling of rapport and euphoria, eventually leading to master and I being "one", of the two of us as one being moving in synch. I feel that the whole of subspace for me is meshing myself into the universe. In subspace I feel one with master, and to a lesser degree with the rest of the universe. It is the strangest sense of utter belonging and utter need, yet with mild detatchment from the realm of actual physical sensation. It's out of this world, yet very, very real. It's a strange journey on a mental plane. It's like taking the deepest parts of my psyche and meshing them with the master's. I can usually effect the transition into subspace with simple breathing exercises and mild meditation during a scene. When I emerge from subspace I am much more emotionally sensitive than usual because to some extent my oneness with the world during that time is very very real. I feel more focused, more in touch, more connected, and more alive after I emerge from subspace than I do at any other time (out of ritual and subspace itself). I feel drained, but alive.

Sorry I can't explain it better. It's a strange, wonderful and completely unique state of mind. Then again, I can only give you my experiences. It will most likely be different for everyone, if only in small ways.

RIOT GURL GREETINGS,again....
wonderful to read you again;
I THINK IT IS INTROSPECTION GENIUS NOT "DISSOCIATION" ;AN ESCAPE FOR THE SCHITSOPHERNIC MINDSET suffering severe-loss symptoms, in, incurable 15 yr. stints...
my " subspace " is filling up the space inbetween us and ,closing the layers to FEEL ,
however,
'daydreaming' is ,under your conscious control and ,
you can, become who you dream, if you do it right,
to dream-rite;is tackling ,not escape....
I ALMOST DROWNED AT THE YMCA AS A KID,and,to see your life pass before your eyes is involuntary ;automatic and quite bewildering;it's all the stupid moments;you have no reason to recall ,in pictures ,WITH FEELINGS;passing in front of your eyes, as you drown and die, and the last thing you see is; a huge blackout block taking its place....,so
next time you do go to the moon; plan the trip ....,because you CAN.

For some, yes, subspace is very much a state of disassociation. For some it is a state of intense connectivity. Depends on the person and the space.

Disassociation is a normal and necessary skill for us to cope with things. The problem is when there's too much to cope with and the disassociation becomes a problem in itself.

Otherwise, being able to give yourself perspective (disassociating) is a very important thing. As far as how people do it in subspace, I'm afraid that's as impossible as telling someone how to have an orgasm...it's so individualized.

I am not sure what you are describing is disassociation, or even dissociation. Psychologically speaking, dissociation is typically a type of "zoning out" where a person separates emotions or thoughts from the rest of the conscious mind. It exists on a continum from normal, everyday stuff to behavior classified as way-crazy. Often it is a defense mechanism.

Let's say you are really into a book. You are so into it, you don't register that someone is talking to you, that the dryer buzzer is going off, that you adjusted your position and knocked over your drink and now it is all over the carpet. Or maybe you are peripherally aware of it, but you are so engrossed you don't react immediately. That might be considered a minor dissociated state.

There are more severe forms of dissociation, often associated with trauma or abuse. I am no expert on sub space, but it certainly seems like it could be considered a form of mild to moderate dissociation.

If you are using the moon as a focal point to try and "connect" that might be different. If you are talking about purposely and consciously trying to associtate with parts of your life? When you ask how to do it for positive reasons, I guess I would ask what exactly your are trying to do. What is your goal?

I've become somewhat of an expert at disassociating.

Many people choose to disassociate me. (bow)

Thanks all that was very informative. i appreciate the responses. SensLips, i know it can be used because of "bad" things, which is why i stated this isnt about that. The first time was complete accident. i was focusing so hard on something that i realised i wasnt really with myself. i was where i was focusing. Second time it just seemed like an interesting state to be in, so i tried to go back as i was focusing. Nothing all that interesting. i was just trying to connect with some one else. But i know it can be used for many different things. Subspace seemed similiar, which is why i asked. Thanks again all.

So your goal is just to expereince the sensation?

Or is it to connect with another person?
