The last few days we have been playing around with making plaster casts of my body. We are using pre-impregnated surgical plaster bandages. It takes approximately 20 mins to set really hard. This got us thinking about  bondage with plaster cast. One could plaster cast the entire body or legs together with the important bits exposed! arms to the side but leaving the breasts uncovered.
We are lucky enough to have an oscillating saw for cutting the cast off but so long as its only a couple of layers thick then surgical scissors would cut it away.

Has anyone else tried this ?

I haven't but damn that sounds like fun!

StrongSpirit -> RE: Plaster Cast (3/8/2009 6:04:58 PM)

I have some experience with this.  I have made life-casts for artistic purposes.  This is similar, but not identical to surgical plaster bindings.  If done for art, you carefully remove the plaster mold, then fill with a setting gel, such as silicone.   As it is not meant to immobilize, it is thinner.  One or two coats of plaster soaked bandages, instead of 3 or more.  You can cut it with a sharp scissors (preferable one with a rounded tip to avoid accidental bleeding).

A strong submissive can break out of this, but similarly most of the time with rope, a spry submissive can break out.

At the very least, I would advise that for your first few attempts, you do it that way.  Later you can experiment with additional coats.

What questions do you have about this?  I will answer any questions I can.   If you live in NYC, I can direct you to a place that offers classes about the art variation.

I did some more research.  Apparently, the "UK" word for what Americans call 'life casting' is 'body casting'.

As your profile states London as your home, you might look at this class:

http://www.askedu.net/course/c_33441_Sculpture__body_casting.htm

In NYC, I took classes at "http://www.sculpt.com/":  The Complete Sculptor.

Also note that the teachers of any life casting class are likely to be extremely BDSM friendly.  Often people use their products for erotic art.   They sell kits to make plaster copies of a penis or vagina.  The penis kit is even designed be filled with the silicone gel I mentioned, creating a dildo.

I saw a demo on it in Chicago. It looked like it could be a lot of fun.

It has been done before. I wish I could find the links for the webite of Mistress who was really into it. She did excellant work. I have not done plaster yet but would love too. One of the big concerns is heat generated from the plaster as it hardens. Precautions should be taken to keep the sub cool. There are couple of ways this can be done. One is to do it in stages. Legs first, torso second, head third. I also read they preferred to use a substance called Alginate as I believe it did not heat up as much as plaster. .

Mistress Stephie Locke has some good picture of plaster mummifcation on her website. Take a look:

Alginate can be used to fill the plaster molds, or for small things (like just a vagina or maybe a hand.)  You can't use alginate for a  large/complex body mold, it does not have enough structural integrity. It certainly would not act as a restraint, you can break right out of it.

Actually it can and has been done. Thickness has a big part in strength. Also combining it with another material like gauze or ace wraps increased its strength tremondously. Take a look

Squidley -> RE: Plaster Cast (3/8/2009 9:05:33 PM)

Try paper packing tape. You can usually get it from office supplies for a couple dollars for a big roll. It's often used in life casting over a T-shirt or plastic cling (Saran) wrap. It's applied with water, the tape dipped or sponged wet to activate the glue. It has the advantage of being both fairly stiff and of being able to be removed with a good pair of scissors. I recommend bandage scissors actually as there is less a chance of unwanted cuts.

Flex points such as knees or elbows could be reinforced with more layers or other materials, and that should help prevent "escapes".

Play hard, but play safe.

chiaThePet -> RE: Plaster Cast (3/8/2009 9:30:52 PM)

Yep, it can be done.

But then they force feed you Jolly Rancher Candies and Smarties.

Then they they hoist you up to the rafters for some suspension play.

Next thing you know everybody has a really big stick.

And yep, you guessed it, it's Pinata time.

Dominants, gotta love em'.

Maria, I don't really have anything to contribute, as I have no experience in this area.  I just wanted to come on the thread and say that you come up with some marvelous topics.

DavanKael -> RE: Plaster Cast (3/9/2009 11:45:09 AM)

I have played with plaster casting to create masks.  As it's been years, I don't remember much.  I do recall vaseline being important to avoid sticking.  I would imagine that you want to be very careful with constriction when wrapping around body parts.  Cool idea, Maria!  :>

The vaseline is important for hair not in a bald cap, eyebrows moustaches and beards.  A couple of friend of mine and I made life cast busts of ourselves.  Just natural sweat and skin oils should be enough to release from most alginates, moulage included.  Pretty much anything else I would reccomend shaving smooth.

But to the OP's post, might I reccomend a barrier like athletic tape or gauze so the hairs don't get caught in the plaster?  Other than that, maybe experiment with making squares of various thicknesses and see what cutting tool will cut up to how much thickness?  Maybe a dremel with a saftey guard would work?

MissMorrigan -> RE: Plaster Cast (3/10/2009 3:02:08 AM)

Great thread, Maria. I was talking with a submissive just over a year ago regarding casting as we both have an interest in it, mine is to immobilise the upper torso and arms at an angle so that they're almost able to touch the area I want to focus on in their helplessness but not quite. I had completely forgotten about this until I saw your thread and would love to have a go at this. Having had a quick look for suppliers, I came across this site: Life Casting plus tips

Believe me I'm not hairy and I really didn't think I had any hair on my belly and breasts but this stuff gets hold of the most microscopic of hairs and it feels like you are having a full body wax when its taken off. That was with lotion applied beforehand.

thanks for the tips
