I believe that my feelings on the subject are best summed up by this quote:

quote:

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
~ Hunter S. Thompson

One heck of a man and so far over the edge that he couldn't find his way back with a map, a Sherpa, and breadcrumb trail. He sort of defined my ideas of edge play, in a sense. There is the physical and mental stuff that we can do with consenting partners in a sensual and sexual sense. Then there is living your actual real everyday, while washing your hair, hitting (haha) the ATM and going on with your life while Teetering on the EDGE. He proved with his life and his writings that life is the biggest, badest, craziest form of Edge play ever, if you choose to live that way.
He will be missed.

In the medicine cabinet.

Next to the Schick Slim Twin2's.

I prefer the conditioning coolness of the aloe gel.

It allows for a close and comfortable shave.

What?

Physically, water and food play are pretty much the top two.  Water as in being immersed- big deal with my ear problems.  Food as in messy, or ON me at all.

Psychologically, it's more to do with feeling abandoned.  Not left alone, that can be awesome, but feeling like they've pulled away from me or are rejecting me in some way.  Doesn't matter what the type of play is, if that's there, it's really touchy for me.

kyraofMists -> RE: Where is your edge? (3/12/2009 6:50:01 PM)

I don't know what I consider the edge to be, maybe it is the things that inspire fear.

Some might consider just living with a sadist to be on the edge.  So often there is no defined play time, there is him just walking by and deciding, 'let's cause her pain' and then there are the times we go to the dungeon and have a set play time.  The 'let's cause her pain' happens way more often (multiple times a day) than going to the dungeon.

Some might consider the BBQ brush (very important to not forget the word brush in this sentence) as edgy, but it doesn't often inspire fear with me.  The one thing that regularly inspires fear in me is when he says "pick which toy you want me to use".  It doesn't matter what I pick, I know he will take it to a point where there is no longer any pleasure it is just pain.

I consider learning to ski for the first time at almost 38 years old to be pretty fucking edgy and I am having a blast doing it.  The family is all excited because tonight I graduated from the bunny hill and went down the next level up.

i dont know where "the" edge is. i don't know where MY edge is yet
part of alot of my thinking into masochism is finding where the draw the line. i had a thread here a whle ago about being a masochist and going too far, like potentially seriously injuring yourself. =p

the hunter s. thompon quote mistoferin posted is pretty fitting, i think.

breathplay is fun.
that is all.

StormsSlave -> RE: Where is your edge? (3/12/2009 10:14:19 PM)

I'm an intensity junky, so that's my edge.  Take me to where it consumes my every thought, every breath, every heartbeat, and what's being done is less important than how it feels.

DesFIP -> RE: Where is your edge? (3/13/2009 6:39:34 AM)

We don't aim for new highs. We are perfectly happy doing the same things. Oh, occasionally I or he will see a new tie and try it out. But generally we're grateful if the house is quiet enough and we're both feeling well enough on the same day to pull out the tried and true favorites.

VeryNastyDom -> RE: Where is your edge? (3/13/2009 6:45:00 AM)

My edge is her edge.  If you push the envelope too hard and too fast, the sub goes from a state of profound exhiliration to abject terror, destroying trust in the process.  To maintain the relationship we must walk to the sub's edge together.

My edge is way far beyond what most subs are ready for so I have not found it, yet.

Bella1965 -> RE: Where is your edge? (3/13/2009 7:08:15 AM)

G'morning all:

quote:

ORIGINAL: SylvereApLeanan
As much as I like to play along other people's edges, mine isn't a place I want to go.  Not because I'm afraid of it...but because I like it too much.  It's the place where my sadism stops being consensual and fun and starts being malicious and dark.  If I stare too long into my Abyss, it doesn't just stare back.  It starts getting friendly and I never want to leave.
*LOUD PURRS*

On another note... I don't believe in "edges". To me, it's all just territory, to be explored or put aside as my mood dictates. For instance; medical play has little or no appeal. While I believe components of it can induce great harm, I don't find it to be edgy, just another set of fetishes.

As for ideology within BDSM? I prefer R.A.C.K. over S.S.C. It more clearly conveys the essence of being responsible and aware of your actions with the subsequent consequences. Besides, what's really safe or sane about beating the snots out of someone? [;)]

Stay safe, play nice, and share your toys w/ others...

I too am RACK..not SSC..and that goes for either side of the whip for me...but...

For me the edge changes from day to day, moment to moment. That which makes me LOOK and examine my life, my value and my emotions of the moment I would consider edge, it is not just a particular play with an implement of some danger. If I tremble on the edge of a memory from my youth, shudder at the feel of cold steel on my flesh, take one more stroke than I feel I can or try something new..it is the edge..It makes me look and it looks back at me.

To me the edge is an ever changing place, sometimes we stand and look down at the vista laid before us, sometimes we strap on a harness and rope and repel down a little ways, trusting that the person anchoring us will not let us fall, will pull us back before we go to far. It can move us to laughter at the joy of feeling alive or tears in longing for what we have so briefly experienced.   Like the horizon it is always just out of reach and always encourages us to enjoy the view but continue the journey.

I am familliar with SSC, but not with RACK, and I would love an explanation, if someone is so minded.

For me the edge is more emotional than physical, or rather, my physical edges can be pushed too, if I am in the right emotional headspace.

I like being brought to the edge, and bringing people to the edge.  I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie, and love the thrill of fear.

I remember being permitted to switch with my top at the time (he switched rarely) and needing to use chain to bind him that night, because he wanted to be pushed from the edge.  If he had gotten loose, I would have been in real danger.  The real risk of knowing some real risk of danger is there, and having the trust that it won't go too far...that is the edge I like playing with.

I am afraid of breath play - yet I love it...same for electrical play and tattoos.  I am so afraid of the needle, the wand, or whatever, but once I am there and in the midst of it, I love every second.

orlandoslv -> RE: Where is your edge? (3/15/2009 12:05:33 PM)

i have recently been enslaved to Bohemian Goddess and She is very sadistic.  i expect that i will be taken to the edge quite often and i am looking forward to it.  i have never experience sub-space before but i know that i will at Her hands.

kdsub -> RE: Where is your edge? (3/15/2009 2:02:01 PM)

To me there is the edge and the ledge ...The edge is something I will do but take me over the ledge and it will change or end the relationship.
