There is some encouraging cancer research out of the UK this week.

"Experts use nanotech to deliver anti-cancer genes"

Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:50am EDT

"LONDON (Reuters) - British scientists said on Tuesday they had developed a treatment that transports anti-cancer genes selectively into cancer cells using nanotechnology.

The therapy has so far only been tried out on mice, but the aim is to test it in humans within two years.

If it works in people, it would provide a highly targeted mechanism for delivering cancer-fighting gene therapy.

Cancer Research UK's Andreas Schatzlein, based at the School of Pharmacy in London, said it was the first time that nanoparticles had been shown to target tumors in such a selective way."

Hoo boy- don't get your hopes up on that one.  There are a bunch of problems- not only do you have to deliver the genes to the cancer cells, you have to recognize the cancer cells.  And why nanoparticles would be good at that is beyond me- cancer cells are really pretty close to healthy cells.  Then there's the problem of once the genes are at the cancer cell- how do you get them into the DNA of the cancer cell?  Basically they're gonna sit there unless theres some type of viral vector involved.

If you want a company that's been making some progress (well, if it's not all a fraud, and I don't think it is.) check out www.nanoviricides.com

Thanks sam, will check it out.

Hi Ven-

Oh yeah- as somebody who worked in the field, let me offer the following observation-

We can do great things for mice.  We can cure cancer in them, and we can get them to walk again after their spinal cord has been cut.  Humans are just a lot more ornery- and complex.

No arguments about that, sam.

That has to drive you up a wall, what the Busheviks have done to Science in the US. God, I remember watching on TV when we put a Man on the Moon! That was so great! And then, in the 90's along come religious headcases and they somehow manage to set us back a good 20 years. China is at the forefront of Maglev Tek. God knows what else they lead the world in. All because of, well, Ima gonna censor meself here, except to say that religious fanatics are the enemies of Humanity.

....not news.

the establishment wont allow a cure for cancer.  Per haps a treatment, but not a cure. It is all about money.  Nothing else.  MONEY.
however the most profit can be extracted, will be the mode of the era.   There is unusual numbers of cancer, all of a sudden. WHY?

moreover, there is treatment and technology that is withheld from the public.

The fallen cherub can offer dazzling things - to where man is as great as god.  or so it seems. It is a promise of lucifer, and it can be fulfilled.

But- it wont trump Jesus Christ.

Every so often we learn of secret experiments done to the public.   All to expand the base of knowledge.

You hardly see on TV, how live bird flu was mixed up into a vaccine.   That should be front page news.

"moreover, there is treatment and technology that is withheld from the public."

Like most conspiracy theories- this one falls flat.  (Sorry Pahunkboy- I like you man...)  Cancer isn't one disease, it's hundreds to thousands.  What we're finding out is that diseases such as breast cancer which can present in a similar fashion can have very different triggers-genetic predispositions can matter, environmental effects, or who knows what?  This really means that the treatment in all likelihood may have to vary to catch the disease in its earliest stages.  There isn't going to be one "cure" for cancer- there may be lots of therapies and treatments.  Hopefully if we learn more- we'll find that an approach that works for one disease can work for another.  There certainly are some similarities in things like solid tumor progression.  But there's a long ways to go.....

This will be awesome if this is proven to be extremely effective. And cancer is a scourge on earth.

You said it ALL here in a nutshell. Years ago, I dated a woman whose 16 yr old daughter was suffering from cancer. Naturally mom reseached everything on the subject. A dr. took a boy whose tumor had grown from the size of a grape to that of an egg. The Mayo clinic said he had months to live. This dr. proceeded to take him in and had that tumor down to a pea and the boy had lived on for years by this time.

My SO took her daughter to this dr...wouldn't you, wouldn't anybody ? Well once the FDA, yes the FDA found out about this dr. they raided his office and took ALL of his medical records...why ? As of our last reading on the subject, the dr. had successfully not once but TWICE in court for a return of those records and was going back to court for a THIRD time...yet the FDA refused to turn them over.

YEP, you guessed it my g/f' daughter's records were there and now...were GONE. Mom went into a virtual state of hateful hysterics. She refused to allow me to go through this with her and broke it off over her obsession and I can't blame her at all.
