Not getting yourself involved in your local area would be detrimental to your search and socializing. On the internet a person is one dimensional...and you never know who they truly are until you interact in person. One word can have several meanings, along with verbal fluctuation, and body language. Running into him at a function could alleviate your frustration , and heighten your esteem. Being "cool" is the key. Approaching him with eye contact saying "hi, was wondering what happened to you" along with a chuckle, then mingling elsewhere will make you feel better because you acknowledged your frustration, yet coyly let him know that you are strong enough "inside" to brush it off. It may encourage him to confront you, and if it doesn't, then you will know he wasnt meant for you.
