i always find it interesting that in some cases said nut case's are subdued by law abiding permit carrying GUN OWNER'S but thats never mentioned in articules about gun violence gone wild  GUNS Don't kill people People kill People

Damn right, guns don't kill people, people kill people.

It's just a sad coincidence that lately, a lot of people killing people are doing it with guns.

That's not to say the guns are to blame, of course, that would be completely ridiculous.

I remember reading somewhere... that those with guns in their houses are 400% more likely to get shot than those without guns in their houses.

Well gee, I guess if you read it somewhere, then it must be true. I certainly hope you've told everyone you know.

No, rule, that qualifies his wife to negate the Second Amendment.
That's the basis for sound national strategy- personal tragedy.

I guess that depends on how you define tragedy.

Myself, I view things as tragedy that are not preventable, like a hurricane.

I view some nutcase with an all-too-easy to obtain gun nearly killing the President and paralyzing one of his staff  as criminal, not tragedy.

Wow....sarcasm...well my opinion has completely changed. Sign me up for the NRA, give me an arsenal...I have been blinded by brilliance and I need a gun.

SpinnerofTales -> RE: Federal Firearms Licensing Act (3/14/2009 11:18:46 PM)

BUT...Since there IS interesting information that IS attributable on the web, let me present for consideration:

A gun in the home increases the risk of homicide of a household member by 3 times and the risk of suicide by 5 times compared to homes where no gun is present.
-Kellerman AL, Rivara FP, Somes G, et al. "Suicide in the Home in Relation to Gun Ownership." NEJM. 1992; 327(7):467-472)

Yep....guns don't kill people. They just happen to greatly increase the odds of someone killing others or themselves when those poor guns are innocently hanging around the house.

Oh..and btw...cigarettes don't kill people either. If you don't smoke them, they're perfectly harmless.

Then people who don't wish to take this chance are free to not own guns. It's a chance I'm willing to take, so it doesn't matter to me.

Kellerman's a guy with an agenda. He's been caught neglecting to distinguish between gun assaults with a gun kept in the home and gun assaults with a gun that was brought into the home by the perpetrator or which occured outside the home, among other questionable aspects of his methods and results. For example, in how many of the homes in his sample was drug abuse or a history of domestic violence a factor? He touts his results as if they prove that stable law-abiding people are placed at risk by a gun in the home. But you need to read some of the objections raised by Kleck and others to get the whole picture.

I can remember before the election that the libs said Obama and the Dems would have their hands so busy with bigger fish to fry that domestic gun issues would be very low priority. Here we are barely two months into the new administration and the new leaders in Washington are showing their true colors just as many predicted they would. I really don't see this thing passing or withstanding the tsunami of legal challenges if it does so I am not really worried. I already own a 'qualifying' firearm and just got a raise so I may go purchase another just to be on the safe side - and a few extra 'qualifying' clips.

You can read it for yourself... but you can probably already guess.

"(3) to the extent that firearms trafficking is intrastate in nature, it arises out of and is substantially connected with a commercial transaction, which, when viewed in the aggregate, substantially affects interstate commerce"

oh commerce clause, how I hate thee.

"(2) it is in the national interest and within the role of the Federal Government to ensure that the regulation of firearms is uniform among the States,"

...wait what?

this *miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight* be unconstitutional. let me check.

Amendment 2 - Right to Bear Arms. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Amendment 10 - Powers of the States and People. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
...yeah, they can't do that.
wow. the 111nth congress is monstrous.

Let`s use the same neo-con rationale used when they trashed our privacy rights,... for this situation....

If one isn`t breaking the law, then one has nothing to hide or worry about............

Right?

See?      No need for all this paranoia.......[:D]

As someone who supports completely getting rid of guns for all civilians, I likely won't like this because I won't see it as 'enough' =P

let's play a game.

all of the people on this thread were on a boat. that boat sank. we all ended up on a desert island and formed a society. we salvaged ten guns from the wreckage. while we were planning out our society, I proposed that I get all the guns. I would be the only person justified to use them and I would hide the ones I didn't keep on my person so that you people couldn't get a hold of them. what is more, I proposed that I should be the final arbiter of all conflicts on the island, even conflicts involving any individual on the island and myself. would this sound like a good idea to you?

Yea, I've always felt the same way about all of those other things we register. I mean if we are not going to register guns, why register anything ?

I like the sound of not having to register things with the government.

slvemike4u -> RE: Federal Firearms Licensing Act (3/22/2009 8:15:49 PM)

It might sound good to you Var30,but its hardly practical.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Federal Firearms Licensing Act (3/22/2009 8:21:06 PM)

Seems practical enough to me. None of my guns are registered, and when I went in and took a peek at 'em a few minutes ago, they seemed to be getting by just fine.

slvemike4u -> RE: Federal Firearms Licensing Act (3/22/2009 8:34:19 PM)

Well completely ignoring the firearms aspect Panda, what Var30 suggested is that nothing need be registered.
Again I hardly think thats practical,

If that's his meaning, I agree with you. And you're probably right; reading back far enough, it seems that probably was his meaning.

I guy calling himself a Dr.but who isn`t(registered),injects you or a loved one with something that harms or kills you/them.

See how even you, are vulnerable?

I can come up with similar examples if you really need any more.

Ensured how? In accordance with what standards?
