Sycdan -> Questions from a newbie (3/13/2009 9:29:11 AM)

Okay... forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, but I felt the need to ask. I've been visiting this site for a while now, but I've pretty much kept to the shadows overall. Over the last few years, I've developed a... facsination, I guess I'll say, with the scene. I honestly can't say what started it, but the desire to explore is there. I guess what I want to ask is if any Dom/mes would be able to make any suggestions to me. I really get the feeling that it truly is a "learn by doing" type of thing, for want of a better way of expressing it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Find a group and get to know some folks.  I see from your profile that you are in Hamilton, which is probably big enough to have its own munch or something like that.  If not, drive a few miles towards Toronto and I am sure you can find something.  Most munches are pretty welcoming of newcomers.

I think that is exactly the key.  If you want to come out of the shadows and actually do this, then it is time to meet people and make connections.

You can go to groups and hope to meet someone but equally you can talk to the women you date and see if they have any interest. Furry handcuffs can be found anywhere, you can ask if she's seen Secretary, read any books on this. Most people won't run into the night if you suggest a light tie and spanking. Most they'll say is no thanks.

look under calendar for groups near you  http://www.ehbc.ca/home.html

it also includes work shops classes, practices  eg  shibari rope practice, a D/s workshop, tantra etc under the calendar

Just popped in... wanted to thank everyone for the advice you've given so far. I'll definitely look into everything you've all said.

As you explore into ropes, whips, hot wax, knives, and fire, it's always good to update yourself on current first aide standards. It's always a good rule to put saftey first.
