I can only say it was while he was president which says 64 and prior to 67, (I know because it was before we moved). Best I can do........

Well, I am sure I will open myself up to ridicule and mocking and finger pointing and all sorts of other nasty humiliations when I admit that I collect Teddy Bears. Yes, that's right... cute, fuzzy, soft Teddy Bears.

I also collect movies, bass guitars, and books... lots and lots of books.

Turtles. Not live ones...carved ones, bronze ones, clay ones...and not just any old ones. But yeah, turtles.
Vintage nursing textbooks and paraphernalia.
Vintage slips and lingerie...although I dont know if it's still a collection if you actually wear them?

I also collect art... but more along the lines of Tribal art, with a special emphasis on non-utilitarian relics from the inland river valleys of Borneo and New Guinea - I also have a few pieces from the Moche' culture in Peru.

And my favorite of all.... a small collection {8} of restored, numbers-matching muscle cars { Late 60's very early 70's vintage - A few Corvettes, Chevelle AMX's etc} I keep them in a climate controlled pole barn I had built and rarely ever drive them. They are unique works of fine American art/craftsmanship from a bygone era. LOL!

I reckon when you have seven or so it get's to be called a 'collection' ;)

I was once told two is a set and three's a collection...so there you have it.

I also forgot to include:
antique glass shoe/slippers
whistles (anything but plastic)
coins--pennies, nickels and mercury dimes
memories!

I also like to compile lists if that could be considered a collection. My favorite is an ongoing list of uses for duct tape...to date, over 3000 actual uses by myself or friends.

I met someone years ago that collected secrets. I always thought that was pretty cool...

*sigh*

Pack Rat here too.

lol, I don't know if we need a thread for this or not?

I don't want to hijack the lovely and talented Aileen's thread ;)

But, okay, just what makes a Pack Rat different from a collector? At a guess I might say it is the difference between collecting fine art and useless junk ;) - though I can't say my tools are useless (just covered in endless sawdust).

Specifically, other people's secrets...with the promise that she would keep them under lock and key and never tell a sole.

Arpig -> RE: PACK RATS UNITE! (1/24/2006 11:28:28 PM)

I recently went through a major down-sizing of the useless clutter in my life, so now all i really collect is books (however, i did get rid of several hundred), but in the past I used to collect bayonets, beach-washed glass, old manual kitchen gadgets, and computers & computer parts.
oh yes and dragon magazines, collected them for years and years, but don't ask me to find something in them...i got rid of them as well.
It was all an excercise in redefining myself after a long bout of depression, and while i miss my collection of computer stuff when something dies on this one (I no longer have a closet full of spare parts), other than that I like having less. I will probably be moving again in a few months, and will likely jettison more stuff then.
there used to be 7 tv's in my home!!! who in god's name needs 7 tvs...now I have only 1.
the only other thing i collect is memories, happy, sad, sweet and bitter, i store them all like gems.

bucky5000 -> RE: PACK RATS UNITE! (1/25/2006 3:57:07 PM)

you got rid of books????? ahhhhhh!!!! damn you batman:P those could have done wonders to adding to my collection and cluttering up my room:P and no, i don;t care what kind of books they were, except readers digest,...i got rid of a 100 or so of those myself last may. and i cried. i can't throw away books. i also collect frogs. i had a real one but i had to let him go becuase the pet store didn;t sell anything he could eat. :( i also collect starbust crystal glass dishes. i like any dishes actually...and especially wine glasses, or interesting drinking glasses. i get it from my grandmother. she has 3 china cabinets full of dishes we aren't allowed to use, LOL.

talmar -> RE: Collections (1/25/2006 4:23:06 PM)

I used to enjoy fountain pens, and although I pulled away from it, due to the expense, I have a pretty good collection of both vintage and new, and continue to keep my eye out for them.

A while back I found a vibrator that lit up when turned on. I thought it was unique, and laughed at the idea of using it when the lights went out. After that, I decided to collect some more unusual dildos and vibrators. So I guess I collect penis' (what's the plural form? [:D]).

I also joke about having some "balls" in a jar on the shelf, but don't seriously "collect" them. [;)] I "would" collect them, but most men I meet don't have any! [sm=lol.gif]
