It's Pi Day, everybody - 3/14! What kind of pie are you having today?

I'm going with bienenstich, a German pastry - not really a pie, but close enough. It's a truly transcendental delicacy, and my desire for it is, uh, constant. In fact, if I weren't worried about changing my diameter, I could easily eat an, uh... irrational number of pieces.

Someone out there is saying: "Pi on me."

Bleurgh [&:] .

If anyone deserves pie, it would be someone as sweet as you.

kittinSol -> RE: It's Pi Day! (3/14/2009 11:03:15 AM)

Awww, Panda, that was so nice :-) . I know it's not sweet, but does quiche count? I love a good quiche, with a green salad on the side. And a glass of chilled Muscadet.

Lockit -> RE: It's Pi Day! (3/14/2009 11:18:10 AM)

LOL.. now I know why you are so into pi/pie today and understand what you said earlier!

I still want jello...

You must work for Hallmark... creating holiday's... Can we have a jello in a wading pool day?

Yes. It doesn't need to be sweet as long as you're involved. You provide all the sweetness that's needed. And a glass of Muscatel? Sure, I think I've got a couple of gallons of that around somewhere. You want it chilled, though? Give me a minute to put a beer mug in the freezer... no, no, it's OK, I wanna show that I can do cultured, too. I know chicks dig that.

Done! When's the first day the average temperature hits 75 degrees in your town, or do we want to just set this up indoors?

Lockit -> RE: It's Pi Day! (3/14/2009 11:40:01 AM)

Heck if I know... I just moved here!  But I am planning an enclosed deck with hot tub... so... it really wouldn't matter then! hehe... Oh goodie!  Naked or nearly naked, jello fights! I must insist on showers before the hot tub though!

Just remember it isn't a REAL Holiday or special occasion until Hallmark makes a Card for it.

I'm baking hamentashen, does that count as pi/pie? They can have fruit filling...

This has been a great month so far for numbers geeks. First we had square root day (3/3/09), then count by threes (3/6/09) and now, pi!

I can't wait until July 8th- that morning and afternoon, for one second, it will be 12:34:56 7/8/09!

Okay, now, that's cool :-) .

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: It's Pi Day! (3/14/2009 12:05:16 PM)

Wow!!  You have now officially stolen my heart, numbers geeky hejira.  And you can make hamentashen.  I'm packing the car for the move to Florida as I type.

Small point but since when has 3 divided by 14 equal 3.14? Confusing your dots and your oblique’s I do believe.[8|]

No, no, no! The date! It's 3/14! If I expressed it as 3.14, fewer people would have gotten that reference and made the  connection.

FullCircle -> RE: It's Pi Day! (3/14/2009 12:25:19 PM)

Of course if you use the superior British date system the 3rd of Quadember is the actual pi day.[8|]

I tried living by that calendar for years, but it cost me so many jobs and so many friends I finally gave up and got on the same schedule as everyone else. I hate making concessions like that,. but sometimes you just have to do the practical thing and accept that it is what it is.

Vendaval -> RE: It's Pi Day! (3/14/2009 1:53:53 PM)

Fruit pies, quiche, meat pies, etc.  Where to start?  Foodies and math geeks can have something in common.  Who knew?

SunNMoon -> RE: It's Pi Day! (3/14/2009 2:16:06 PM)

Thank you Panda! I'd almost forgotten to say happy pi day to my best friend. [:D]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: It's Pi Day! (3/14/2009 7:46:16 PM)

I laid down (well, collapsed) after work to find that the last of the blackberry pie was CONSUMED!
