sirsholly.. that is so true!  I have to hold myself back or I know I won't walk the next couple of days.  I used to dance for hours, especially when I went out for the night and I did it daily... but now... two songs and I am flat out... the next day!  In the moment... I know only the fun!

I also blended a belly dance with erotic... That works wonders on a man, let me tell ya! hehe

I LOVE my water. I will go through about 5 bottles a day sometimes, and mostly it's plain bottled water, and sometimes for fun I put crystal light in it.

YHMA, you need to invest in some serious thumping tunes if you don't already have any on your iPod, if you're going to dance - nothing like hypnotic beats to get the blood going. Just throw your arms up in the air and stomp away.

Yeah but Holly that is because you are always showing off, doing those upside down splits way up high on the pole and stuff while you have sparklers in your kazoo. I mean that stuff ain't for beginners!

YHMA before spending your money on a video or dvd maybe you should pick up several styles from your local library to look over. They usually don't cost anything and you don't get stuck with something you don't like.

ETA:
Check out YouTube, I bet you can find dance videos on there too. Remember, dance is HARD work so please don't get discouraged. I am really glad that you are working to improve your body! I think that is just great.

camille, yeah the library is a great source, the ones from flirty girl are only 20 bucks plus shipping, so if you don't like them it's not to bad, and Daddies sister in law had strippersize tapes, He was always joking he would borrow them for me.

And the local rec center here, offers belly dancing classes, and there's other dance classes.

And of course you can make up your own routines, and you can watch dance video's and modify it to what you can do and well the options are limitless.

And of course

Calories in, calories out. You must take in less food than you burn off in energy expeneded. Its basic math. Any method would work so long as you do that. Sticking to a plan regardless of which one is what work.

Lushy,
You know it's not always basic math.  I'm not gonna beat my dead thyroid horse here, but really... it's more complex than that...

Anyway, YHMA, in answer to your question...
I love to dance, I used to take a dance class every Friday night in Philadelphia (it's great - if anyone wants to know about it, email me on the other side).  I also took some weekend long trainings... and yes, I've had the erotic dance classes.  I tried belly dancing once, but the way it was set up, I felt really on the spot and like the odd hippo with all these skinny minnies.

The important thing YHMA is to choose an exercise that makes you feel good!  I need comraderie, i need others to get my ass in gear.  So even now with my daily walk, if I'm alone, I call people.  Yes, that's why y'all get 7 a.m. phone calls on the west coast!!!  I loved dance classes and whether I lost weight or not, I FELT better.  I felt prettier, sexier, stronger.  And THAT to me was what I was going after.  Every Friday, I'd go down, dance my frustrations out and dance my love in.  It was powerful.  It was cathartic.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I could.

Good luck, and feel free to cmail me.  I'd be happy to be a support person as best I can.
well wishes to all,

Yes! And feeling prettier, sexier and stronger makes a person prettier, sexier and stronger.

I am on my fourth week of Ai Chi (probably spelled it wrong), which is Tai Chi done in the water and by gosh there is a definite difference in how I feel which is directly translated into how I look. I feel good and it shows.

Except on days like this when I am curled up on my bed in agony having overdone the 'tree' stance this morning hahahaha.

You mentioned bellydancing classes at a local rec center. I would go with those. Bellydancing is absolutely great exercise, plus, in the beginning, a class where you can get hands-on help and advice makes it much easier than struggling alone at home.

And have fun! That makes it all much easier.

Yup, there's something to be said about hands on help when you're just learning.

Wow talk about a trip down memory lane.  I used to dance my heart out on the weekends when I was in my 20's and part of my 30's.  Mostly freeform ballroom dancings.  I went to a small club that had a one guy act, but boy was he talented with a 12 string.  There was one older gentleman who used to teach dance and the moves the taught me, I was in heaven.  The talent in the small place was awesome.
Waltzing, push dancing and even some swing, before the craze of the swing came back in.

Years later my daughter found the love of dance and was quite the popular gal at the clubs for those that loved to swing dance.  Sadly I never got to see her in action but I can just imagine how good she was.

I never did it to lose weight, but it defiently burned the calories as it was rare to turn down a dance. LOL  Thank goodness Roger (the act) took breaks so we could all catch our breathe.

And this was all in insane high heels at that.  Its a wonder I still have ankles.

Dance like there is no tomorrow....
