Nuts.  Insane in the membrane.  I can't express the level of stupidity involved on so many levels for this to come about.  I can't even really believe its actually happened.  People can't be this stupid, can they??

The answer to that question is always: Yes. Yes they can.

I don't know what's worse, how stupid the whole thing is or the fact his own grandparents called the police about it.

Not just that, but the stupidity of people on multiple levels.

1.  The parents called the police because they found a zombie story their 18 year old grand child had written.

2.  The police handle the matter as though it were a terroristic threat.

3.  Prosecutors convinced the judge to raise bail to five thousand dollars.

This kid has no luck.  The way this is going, the jury aren't even going to consider a not guilty verdict.

Wow, that is fucked up behind all measure!

Poor guy. Even if all ends "well", can you imagine going home to a family that thought you were about to commit mass murder?

No. If my family thought I was the kind of person who could ever do a thing like that, I'd kill 'em all!

HandSolo -> RE: Student arrested over his zombie fiction (3/18/2009 3:20:49 PM)

Silver lining: he'll probably make a million dollars off that story, and spend a year in televised interviews calling everybody involved frikken' retards.

50 years of liberal run government schools, and political correctness are to blame here.

Lynnxz -> RE: Student arrested over his zombie fiction (3/18/2009 4:47:40 PM)

I... didn't know that zombies were considered terrorists?

rexrgisformidoni -> RE: Student arrested over his zombie fiction (3/18/2009 4:48:30 PM)

If he were my kid, I'd critique his zombie stories. Because lets face it, zombies are; a-awesome, and b-hilarious. I feel bad for the kid

LDRandAstarte -> RE: Student arrested over his zombie fiction (3/18/2009 4:52:35 PM)

Funny that all of you are saying how stupid the cops and the grandparents are, and none of you have read what the grand parents and the cops have read.
None of you know what the journal REALLY says, now do you?

All you know is the guy says it's a fictional short story. But you have not read it yet have you?

YES! I read that, this is what the kid is claiming, but I have not read it and neither have you, so we don't know that to be the truth.

It MAY turn out to be the truth, and if that is the case then yes it is incredibly stupid. But at this point you are ALL jumping to conclusions and assuming that what the kid says is true and that the cops and the grand parents are idiots.

How about you wait for some facts?

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: Student arrested over his zombie fiction (3/18/2009 4:59:21 PM)

subrob,
Uhm, no, more like 8 years of the terrorist are out to git us!  He wasn't busted by his school.  The fear mentaltiy that was driven into our collective consciousness over the last 8 years is what makes a gramma narc on her grandson, a cop arrest the kid for writting fiction, a prosecuter thinking he can make a name for himself, and judge too afraid not to be "tough on crime".  This would have made more sense if the school had suspended the kid based on a "head in the sand" "zero tollerance" policy.

rex: I'm with you: zombies are fun! So long as I'm well-armed :D

If anyone knows of a legal defense fund for this kid I'll send him my last $10.

~Dave

It had already been handed in and graded by a teacher, who obviously wasn't disturbed.

Rofl! How do you figure this one out [:D] ?

sophia37 -> RE: Student arrested over his zombie fiction (3/18/2009 5:11:15 PM)

There is just so much I DONT know about this story, that my first impression was, how bad is this news station? Too short of an article to free or hang the guy. Lets face it.

OK you can ramble on all you want, but;

There is nothing in the posted story that says that is was turned in a graded.
It says the police and the grand parents found something in his journal.
There may well be a fictional story about zombies or it may be a fabrication the kid is telling now to save his ass.
There may be other things in the journal that are unrelated to the story about zombies, if it exists.
The story did not say they busted him for a story he wrote for English class, it said they busted him for things in his journal!

Have you looked at the journal? YES or NO?

No you haven't!

You have NO IDEA what is in it, so ramble on if you wish, I am done here.

Here, try these commentaries on for size - a little more infor on the case...
And I hadn't even gotten around to thinking about the 1st Amendment implications...
