I have family and friends that have serious medical issues that are not really treated correctly by most conventional methods (meaning Pharmco drugs) so this is a great step in the right direction for many people that suffer needlessly.

Hello Vanessa, thanks for posting this.  One more step forward for medical marijuana.

it is FABULOUS news.  this slave is most grateful that the Obama administration has instructed the DEA to leave folks like her ALONE.

the first MD that prescribed marijuana for this slave told her that over half of his patients have been referred to him by MD's with patients who were not getting relief from pharmaceuticals.  they had never smoked marijuana in their lives and weren't interested in starting...but they were driven to get relief...so they vaporize it or ingest it, thereby avoiding the "smoke".

the rest of his practice were made up of folks who had been medicating with marijuana for years...and were thrilled to finally have a "legal" means of continuing the practice.

most interesting to this slave, is that California is the only state that has crafted their medicinal marijuana laws to accommodate dispensaries...and hopes that other states will find ways to implement the same.  not everyone has the capacity to grow their own.

Now if states would just expand the "list" of medical issues that qualify. Some states (like mine) have 4 or 5 that qualify and deny everyone else who have no treatment options (viable, that work without side effects, that don't cost $600 a month). Gotta love how our govt. makes so many of us into "criminals". :)

the Great State of California included the following language in the Compassionate Use Act of 1996 (11362.5 H&S), specifically, so that MD's could make the decision, not legislators, as to what sorts of medical issues qualify:

(A)To ensure that seriously ill Californians have the right to obtain and use marijuana for medical purposes where that medical use is deemed appropriate and has been recommended by a physician who has determined that the person's health would benefit from the use of marijuana in the treatment of cancer, anorexia, AIDS, chronic pain, spasticity, glaucoma, arthritis, migraine, or any other illness for which marijuana provides relief.

if only it was OTC, like aspirin...well...a girl can dream, can't she?

Yes well California is more progressive than most other states. We (my state) are run by a bunch of idiots who are virtually impossible to get out of office. I mean think Ted Stevens and the "Tubes", that type of insane morons, lol. :)
