WiseCracknSadist -> Dominants have submissive experience (3/19/2009 1:04:54 PM)

I realized today that Doms have experience being submissives in everyday life whether it be with supervisers, teachers/mentors, or catering to clients.

Has this experience ever effected how you treat your sub/slave? Perhaps giving you empathy or understanding of their station in the relationsgip.

I disagree that everyday interaction with others, such as those you outlined, is submission.  At least it isn't how I view submission.

Just because you are not at the top of the corporate food chain (yet) doesn't make you submissive.  Submissive who find themseleves promoted because of their competencies for a particular job don't instantly turn into dominants either.

Regardless, if you work in a large organization you learn people skills along the way and those are universally helpful in personal interactions of all types.

No kidding, but some people sure work awfully hard to try and find it.

I think that power dynamics are at work all over the place.  'Course, I think that if you overthink them in venues where it's not particularly prudent to do so, that could be a problem.

For your statement to have any validity then by default the opposite would have to hold true also!
As a chef i have a staff of 25 that work under my supervision and i think i would be kind of weird if i thought of these people as being submissive to me.
Far from  directionally managing these guys and gals i encourage them to challenge my decisions in a positive way to create a healthy creative envireoment for us all to work in(granted during service periods it can be very directional but thats the nature of the beast in my job but certainly no one is thinking from a dominant/submissive perspective but from what needs done to get things right)
Likewise if my line managers took a directional management stance with me id very quickly move on to pastures new!they pay me for my expertise not submission and i respect the part they play in the process also.

I think you need to rethink your perspective............or change jobs [;)]

If you get paid it's not submission, it's prostitution. [:)]

What makes you think 'Doms' don't have empathy or understanding inherent in their nature? They are, after all, human beings, right?

Like your previous post, this is a streeeeeetch. Sure, the milkman is submissive to me... he'd probably protest if I whipped his ass, though. Why are you (desperately?) trying to find equivalents where none exist?

Aneirin -> RE: Dominants have submissive experience (3/19/2009 9:28:30 PM)

I have the view that dominants are in all reality submissive. Submissive in that they need another to compliment their being and so will do what is needed to get and keep that complimentary person. If a sub says no, then the dom is lost, powerless, as no, means no, but then that might be just my  understanding of interpersonal relationships.

MsDDom -> RE: Dominants have submissive experience (3/19/2009 9:43:44 PM)

i am not submissive in everyday life...i have in my life tried (yes, tried) to play the submissive wife...didnt work.
my nature is dominant, and even though i have a boss, it doesnt make me "submissive" in the manner i think u r trying to convey...
