SirKenin -> RE: how much do you think would honestly be a fair price to ask for homemade baby items (1/25/2006 1:57:09 PM)

I know I would not pay it, that is for damn sure. I am sure they are very nice and everything, but usually I found My kids did not give a darn if someone handmade them, they had them trashed in a matter of weeks anyways. For any parent that uses any amount of common sense it does not make sense to pay any more than a buck or two for a bib. The baby pukes, spits up all their food and drools all over it, it becomes tattered and stained beyond repair, you have it for a week or two, throw it out and grab the next one out of the package. Blankets are a different story, but again it will be a very niche market so you can not exactly demand top dollar for them. Most, if not all, people get blankets given to them by friends and relatives on the baby's arrival, at baby showers, whatever. There is no shortage of supply for really nice free blankets. Heck, we had some crotcheted for us. Very nice blankets and they did not cost us a nickel. During the whole time My kids were growing up we did not spend one dime on blankets. They practically grow on trees. Basically, once again price is established by supply and demand. Sure, it is easy to say that your workmanship is worth what you are asking for your products, but unfortunately very low demand and an overly abundant supply dictates a completely different pricepoint in My experience. Take this from someone that is also in business for themselves.
