Anyone in the UK cannot have failed to miss the story of Jade and her cancer fight. She died this morning in her sleep. Of course the whole thing is very sad for everyone involved but is it really a story worthy of being the top news story on all the news channels. So far this morning Sky News have devoted over an hour to her life/death.

Surely there are more important news stories.

Its all about what the public want to hear. The cult of the celebrity detracts from the real issues these days, just as the old time movie stars did.

I really didn't see, other than being a media whore, what in the world she brought to enrich the public or the entertainment industry. Yet, as polite stated, people wanted to hear about her and that's what sells--if we stopped our nosey behaviors, these poor news stories may stop--though I did see that because of her public presence, there has been a dramatic increase in paps in England--so I guess its a stretch but some good came from this, even for a short while, I think.[8|]

Not only do I not see this as worthy of being a top news story, I don't see why it's anyone's business aside from her family and friends. This is a private matter, but then I'm not a believer in the public's "right" to know.

I've not heard much of this news but I think it is a big story because for a short time she became a part of the nations consciousness and everyone had an opinion of her (good or bad). What people might be most shocked by in this continuous news event is the reality most families of cancer victims are more familiar with and that is the timeline from diagnosis to death can be very short. I think if someone is in the spot light and has become a part of your life directly or indirectly then it is newsworthy, probably we don't need finite analysis of it all but it is still a legitimate news item.

We can all argue about what she contributed to society but that for me is irrelevant the only thing that matters is the fact she put her personality out there for judgement. The public got to know some of her inner most feelings as she didn't really try to hide anything about herself which also caused her a lot of pain and suffering she could have done without in her life as the harsh condemnation came down upon her. Whatever people’s opinions of her she was honest about her imperfections and that is an admirable quality, so in my opinion more than just her family will miss her and more than just her family will mourn for her passing.
