Leather burkas would be really cool with stiletto heeled boots under them. You need one guy to be the "sissy" in a pink attire and high heels, he can be the one laughing at the other men who would be screaming like little girls(boys, I've heard some little boys who can really scream!)because they just cannot handle a dominant woman.

FYI,the Saudis are the only Muslim country to ban women from driving cars.Probably the only country period to do so.They as a society are as backward as they come.

Funny. when pictures of US Military Women "dominating" insurgents in Abu Ghraib popped up, your side threw a hissy fit, but now it's ok, as long as the women wear burkahs?

I'm all for attacking SA, and taking out the Mullahs that preach hate, and the Sauds who support them.

They are in bed with the west enriching their own coffers....while supporting and financing the very madrases that produce the most ardent of fundamentalist's.
And this is business as usual for The House of Saud.....oil for money and money for the Mullahs so they won't topple the regime.

We don't condone Saudi culture.  Collectively, Western peoples find their culture objectionable.  But it's not our culture.  We trade with them, and we have much more influence on them that way.  What do you and Vanessa propose we do?  Economic boycotts?  We've tried that with more than a few countries, and it usually solves nothing.

And every time I buy some new Tupperware I say to myself "Fuck those Saudi women and all like them that live a horrible life of beatings, despair, torture, no options and death at the hands of the insane patriarchial SOBs that "own" them. As long as I get cheap gasoline, plastics and other products why should I give a fuck about others"?

You really disappoint me slave boy. That type of generalized statement belongs on Fox News or an after school special for kids. Seriously, we all know how important petroleum is in our day to day lives, still must we support the worst of the worst to get it? There are alternatives. There has ALWAYS been alternatives. I would happily pay $10 a gallon for gas if it meant that other women around the world would be free from the jackasses that currently "own" them and have power due to the money they have, which we gave them, to buy oil, so Bush Co. could make more millions. :(

How exactly are we supporting them?  We buy things from them, and we respect their soverienty.  Every administration in the past 40 years has criticized their human rights record, including both Bush administrations.  The Saudis are perfectly aware of our collective distate for their culture.  By the way, this notion that Bush is in some sort of conspiracy with the Saudis to rake in cash belongs on a far-left or far-right blog along with other bullshit theories.  Both Democratic and Republican administrations have been extremely friendly with the Saudis and justifiably so. 

You're wrong about there "ALWAYS being alternatives."  Saudia Arabia is a major player in the Middle East and in OPEC.  We have to deal with them.  Our entire economic stability depends on steady oil supplies from that part of the world.  Besides it isn't our place to force our morality on other nations.  We don't have any room to talk considering our own culture's treatment of women.  The rate of violent crime towards women in this country is much higher than any Islamic nation.  It's that reason that Muslim cultures feel justified with following strict interpretations of the Islamic law.  In fact, you'll find survey after survey where Muslim women defend their culture.

Let's be somewhat realistic and as much as it makes me cringe, somewhat politically correct and talk diversity and cultures. I hate doing that but here in the US, we're all about diversity and cultures and respecting such things. Their culture is not our culture. Their way of life is not our way of life. It's not our place to condone it or not condone it. This is what I don't get about the hand-wringing PC folk. The very pedestal upon which they sit and judge is built upon oil and most of it comes from places that have a different culture. No one forces you to condone it. If you don't want to, don't. Park your car, change your heat to solar or wood, refuse to walk in any building where energy comes from oil.

In other words, put some sufferage in your indignation. Drop that cup of coffee in your pic as it traveled across oceans on steamers most likely driven by oil. Throw out all your plastic and make your own paper. Cut power lines to your house and raise bees so you can make candles.

While you're doing all of that, figure out where in your endless search for respect for cultures where your respect ends in respect to the ease of your daily life.

We support them because they're a moderate and supporting voice in a region where we have few friends. We support them because our entire economy and way of life is based upon cheap energy. We support them because the US doesn't craft law for the rest of the world, and if we did in order to change such nations, well, we'd all be a bunch of George Bush's.

Until some bright star comes along and creates a viable alternative to oil, we need the stuff. And there is NO viable alternative to it as yet.

Vanessa, the job of the U.S. govt. is to run our country not to go around taking on the problems of foreign countries.
And as a U.S. Citizen I really don't much care what they do in foreign countries.
I'm not willing to pay more for "special coffee" because some people in the U.S. think "Juan Valdez" isn't making enough money for his coffee beans.
People would be better off and our country would be better served if we put all that energy into making the U.S. a better country.
