Danibelle -> fire cupping (3/25/2009 2:34:15 PM)

Has anyone tried fire cupping as part of their play?  I tried it for the first time last night and found it to be an interesting and soothing addition to our playtime.  If you've tried, what have your experiences been like?

SailingBum -> RE: fire cupping (3/25/2009 3:05:16 PM)

uhhh no.  Reminds me of ppl that check for gas leaks with a propane torch...Yes really! One mistake and your a goner.  Not worth the risk in my book.  Anything that involves someone standing by with a fire extinguisher is not my idea of fun.

And don't tell me how safe it is.  2 of my brothers are fire men and have seen more stupid shit than you can imagine.

LadyPact gave a demo on how to do firecupping on a budget a while back that I attended + playtime afterwards, I'm sure she'll jump in here.  I've just done it then and 2 other times with my spouse at home, giving and receiving... I find receiving soooo relaxing.  Giving, I'm high strung trying not to hurt the other person, but not unpleasantly.  It's fun, I'm just a worrier always about everything lol.

When i worked at a reinactment museum of 18th medical practice (wow that was mouth full ) we'd explain the process, but we never did it on real people. now that i think about it, a sadist would really enjoy that museum.

i'd like to do it, but i've always been weary i'd get the wrong type of cup and it might crack.

allthatjaz -> RE: fire cupping (3/25/2009 3:26:23 PM)

We have some of those chinese cups that you put a flame inside and then stick to the skin. Is this the same as fire cupping?
If so we would love to know the right technique for doing it as we just can't quite get it right [:)]

I'm reasonably sure no one has exploded violently from firecupping yet.

I'm not an expert in the process, but I do firmly grasp the theory. A cup or ramekin is placed flush to the skin, making an airtight seal. The flame in the cup uses all the oxygen, creating a weak vacuum. This holds the cup to the skin, raises the skin inside the lip of the glass, and produces the suction effect.

As far as I can tell, there's no idiot proof way to do this, so caution, fire extinguishers, and aloe vera should be prized.

I've never seen them, but I had the idea for a bong-esque cup, which burns the material on one side, and draws air from the side cupping the skin. I heavily doubt I'm the first to have that thought.

Edit:

Youtube, while also not a professional, has some videos which might clear up some questions.

curiousINct -> RE: fire cupping (3/25/2009 3:36:53 PM)

Yes. I liked the split second of panic I had each time I felt that moment of warmth, but so far prefer the suction cups overall. We may have needed a bigger flame to make it more effective.

I very much agree with you on that one.

DesFIP -> RE: fire cupping (3/25/2009 3:47:46 PM)

I remember a friend doing this to my mother 40 odd years ago to ease a muscle spasm. It worked but she declined to ever do it again.

Thanks HeavansKeeper... I never thought of a lesson from Youtube!
I was shown how to do it by a Chinese woman and she made it look so easy before selling me the glass globes for a small fortune!

Spontaneous human combustion is so over-rated as a participant sporting event.[sm=anger.gif]

I was wondering about this, is there any reason to use these instead of vacuum cups?

Yes!  I did find it relaxing at the time... hurt like hell coming off and a nice tingly sensation now... but during it was quite relaxing.  For some reason I imagined it as much worse than it was.

That was my first thought. But it has a quaint authenticity to it. And to Allthatjaz, I know... I've blown many small fortunes in magic shoppes which make it look so easy...

Playing with fire can be fun? [;)]

For me, the fire added a mental thrill that the vacuum cups did not. The suction from it is more natural feeling, really fast - but it was just 'meh'.

The vacuum cups were kind of ouch. My body was not loving them as they went on, but they put me in a different head space quickly ('ouch' to 'ah')- which the fire ones did not. (again though, maybe a bigger flame would have had the same effect. or maybe the bit of worry over getting burnt was too distracting to enjoy the sensation.)

SassySarijane -> RE: fire cupping (3/25/2009 5:01:38 PM)

I very much enjoyed my experience with them. There was no fear and no pain or discomfort to me at all. Just felt really good.

MasterRaid -> RE: fire cupping (3/25/2009 5:11:16 PM)

Yes I have done cupping as well as implementing gun cotton and the use of  string and torches. The problem is taking your time and YES a fire extinguisher. Skin prep is a must and use only small quantities. My belle likes how nervous it makes her to experience it as well as how relaxing it is once she calms down after the first two cups or flashes. I have a friend whom  is very very good with fire play and He gets nothing but compliments when He uses it. But I will stress again cupping and fire play is nothing to be toyed with.

Andalusite -> RE: fire cupping (3/25/2009 7:18:03 PM)

I really liked how it felt, physically, the one time I tried it, but the way it sucked my skin up into it kind of made me feel fat, even though I'm not.

Because playing with fire is fun?

I love firecupping.  It's really not that hard beyond basic hand/eye coordination.  The only problem I had in the begin was excess alcohol from getting a little too excited with the wand and alcohol.  Once you practice a little, you get a feel for  how to control the suction of the cups.  I found these amazing glass cups with really thin edges.  I've never had one break, but you get more of a cutting into the skin feeling with them.  What you need for fire cupping is...some common sense and a craft store.
