Shock collars, stun guns, and cattle prods are essentially the same thing: high voltage but low amperage shock devices. Many dog collars are adjustable from 5,000 to 10,000 volts, cattle prods are in the higher end of the same range, and stun guns put out 50,000 to 70,000 volts. Pain is proportional to the voltage. Ever walk across a synthetic carpet in the winter and then touch a light switch? That was a few thousand volts. While working in a physics lab, I once accidentally got hold of 80,000 and it was a very memorable experience - the phrase "holy fuck" comes to mind. All electrical play carries at least some risk. If you want to try it, keep the voltage below 10,000 and apply the shocks well away from the head and chest. An adjustable dog collar, on the lowest setting, strapped to the thigh or calf might be a place to start.
