I have been wanting to see what a cow prod would feel like. Can a master explain on how he would use it on his slave or sub

You can find videos on Youtube (but not fetish-oriented, of course) of cow prods and shock collars being used on people.

Holy fuck it hurts. The sound and sight of it is enough. I wouldn't submit to someone who wanted to use one and didn't have first hand experience what it feels like to have an electric-fucking-freight-train slam into their body.

In BDSM I've only ever seen one used as a mind fuck. (Cattle prods make me curse, it seems).

Edit: changed "would" to "wouldn't". Kind of a big difference.

Used it and an adeptation I had made so a telescopic batton could be used as an electric shock stick on out of control people. Both were very effective and saved me using a mace spray.. haven't tried one in this country or on a slave yet but it will happen eventually I immagine.

Security stores sell them here, called stun batons.

Just so you know, the ones they use on wired pussy, etc, are mostly props, with a little jolt here and there.

Don't believe everything you see on a porn.

Shock collars, stun guns, and cattle prods are essentially the same thing: high voltage but low amperage shock devices.  Many dog collars are adjustable from 5,000 to 10,000 volts, cattle prods are in the higher end of the same range, and stun guns put out 50,000 to 70,000 volts.  Pain is proportional to the voltage.

Ever walk across a synthetic carpet in the winter and then touch a light switch?  That was a few thousand volts.  While working in a physics lab, I once accidentally got hold of 80,000 and it was a very memorable experience - the phrase "holy fuck" comes to mind.

All electrical play carries at least some risk.  If you want to try it, keep the voltage below 10,000 and apply the shocks well away from the head and chest.  An adjustable dog collar, on the lowest setting, strapped to the thigh or calf might be a place to start.

Ayep, but in some cases you blokes have a far better idea and a far better appreciation of both Security and Policing than we do. Here in Queensland it took ages to allow the Police to carry capsicum sprays against the loud wailings of the do-gooders and even a louder wailing and gnashing of teeth to allow the use of tassers. Naturally the same people want to remove fire arms from Security Officers, even those moving large cash from business to bank and bank to bank, but are happy to have the same Security Officers to patrol hard and dangerous areas unarmed without even Police back-up. Stun Battons!  Lawdy Lawd! Ohh Mah Gawddd!!!Heavens forbid that out Police be allowed to have those babies and never the Security Officers who are not allowed to have either tassers or capsicum. I get ostracized in some areas of "polite company" because I an armed when I leave home as Federal Law requires me to do so if I feel the need.

Still as far as the use in BDSM goes, I'd have to say that the same warnings for any form of electrical play must apply and certainly I'd want to make sure that my partner didn't have a heart condition or similar medical issues.

i have felt one, not on purpose, but happens when moving large numbers of cattle in small spaces...lol i honestly would not recommend it. i'm sure someone out there is into it, but be very very careful with the voltage and prepared to possibly leave permanent marks..i got hit on the arm and can still tell where i got hit...not sure how that would translate to more sensitive flesh.

IronBear,

I'm not sure where I stand on arming the public. Part of me feels it puts the public in danger because criminals with guns -know- they have the upper hand. Meanwhile, The US has far more homicides per capita than The UK... Thats said, peace keepers need weapons to get their job done

VeryNastyDom covers the issue nicely. http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~p616/safety/fatal_current.html is a great resource is understanding electricity and pain... and death.

I'm a little unsure of which, voltage or amperage is responsible for skin burning. I'm semi guessing here, but I think its the voltage. Voltage is like velocity while amperage is like mass. High voltage, low amperage is like a BB pellet. Low voltage, high amperage... It's like pushing a car through your heart at 10 miles per hour.

This is off topic. Concerning the OP, I would not use a cattle prod with a pet. Only a disturbed sadist would. The flicker and clicker of electric play is attracting. The sound of the snap is.. inspiring. Low voltage devices still crackle with electricity.

Let me share my experience... I was nicked with a cattle prod on the right calf. The first response was shock, that is surprise. Then tightness, like I was standing on my toes.. but worse. It was more like putting that muscle in a vice. Then pain. Like I said above... An electric-fucking-freight-train. Then uncontrollable spasms and tingling in the foot, with cramping in the thigh. At this point I was laughing. I don't know why. When I stood up, it felt like I had ran a marathon, on one leg. I had two small red burn marks on the skin. They didn't blister, probably because the contacts didn't touch my leg.

Amen...and i know i'm not sure where the laughter comes from either, but it does. Like you are just completely going insane and loosing control of all your facilities. Any Master thinking of taggin Thier sub with one, needs to hit Themselves first...

OP, I suggest that, as in any case where a dominant has any doubt about how any instrument, process or technique might affect his/her submissive, first try it on yourself. Then get back to us.

Edited to add: Oh, it seems from your nick that you are submissive. Same advice. Try it on yourself and get back to us.

Yep, definitely the voltage.  The reason stun gus, shock collars, and prods all have two electrodes is so that there is a clear pathway between the poles (one side of the capacitor inside the gizmo is positive, and one negative).  Since the poles are close together, and electricity follows the path of least resistance, the current will flow from one pole to the other.

In electrical accidents, or lightning strikes, the current flows through the body to ground.  The entry and exit points, plus all the "meat" in-between gets cooked (literally).  This does not happen when there are two electrodes in close proximity and a battery operated device can only supply a limited amount of current for a short time, but you can still get skin damage in the immediate area.  Play accordingly.

Cattle prods, well, not on a human, no.  I used them as intended, on cattle.  The power in one of those I would absolutely not recommend for people.  Pain is one thing, but that sits right on the border of dangerous and potentially deadly if one has any history of heart issues or neurological issues, including frequent or debilitating headaches (in which case, discuss any electrical play with your physician first).  When in doubt, consider the size and strength of the animals that they're meant to control, how much larger and more powerful and how much more they're able to endure than humans, and think about it logically.
