Why do I need a GPS when I can get perfectly lost all on my own?

The guy owns a BMW, works as a delivery driver, and cannot drive?  Makes NO sense whatsoever.

apparently there exists a need for a line in the operator's manual specifying that turning a GPS on doesnt mean turning common sense off !

my GPS annoys the snot out of me...if i know a shortcut, it wont tell me how to get there from where i am, it wants me to pull a u turn and go back to the nearest highway...and it gets louder and more annoyed sounding every block i drive forward and every second i ignore its instruction...til i have to turn it off completely. Sniffle. i refuse to be dominated by an application on my cellphone....harumph.

Verizon Navigator can't tell you which way to turn out of a parking lot. So if the store is on a corner, you just have to guess which street to enter, at which point it then tells you you're going the wrong way and need to turn around. Well, if it had told me to turn left and not right exiting, then I wouldn't be going the wrong way!

I use Microsoft Streets & Trips, but I don't have the GPS thingie.  It's sooooo much fun trying to manipulate it into taking me the route that I want/need to take.  One time it told me to go through Harper's Ferry because I can't tell it I'm driving a semi.  Luckily I have a brain & can figure out where I shouldn't oughta go.  Another time, however, I was driving through Joliet, IL & stopped at a traffic light & looked up ahead to see a low clearance sign.  I guessed that I should go right & wandered my way around Joliet till I found the old penitentiary.  I stopped & took pics of it, then wandered on some more till I found my way out the other side.  I'm somewhat handicapped due to a distinct lack of a sense of direction.  Which is why they call me "Wrong-way Linea, the Queen of the U-Turn".

quote:

The phrase "You have reached your final destination" almost took on a whole new meaning for one British driver on Sunday when the soothing robot voice of his car's GPS became a siren's call luring him toward his doom.

The trusting motorist followed the device's instructions as it led him off the road and on to a narrow public footpath. Heading down the steep, rocky trail, he continued blindly obeying commands until the point when the front of his vehicle ran up against a thin wire fence, inches from a 100-foot drop.

Ummm... don't you have to input the address of your destination to get driving instructions???  How did he know the address of the cliff, then?

Just saying.

And i agree with holly.  What a doofus.

The line at the end about the GPS singing a slow version of "Daisy" before shutting down was hilarious

I was just talking about those things the other day. A friend of mine just took a road trip back to where she grew up in upstate NewYork. She has made this trip multiple times. Yet, this time, she felt the need to get one of the new GPS things.

I really like this person and I know she is a sensitive soul so I bit my tongue.

Then she asked "LeeAnn, aren't you planning on driving out to see your sister in a few months?" To which I replied "why yes Laurie, I am" .......still biting my tongue "well LeeAnn, I think you would really love having that (whatever her's is called) in your car."

Now I am really biting my tongue. Yes my sister has moved, and no I've never been to the town. However, I do know where Colorado is, I have been there. I do know the general location of this little podunk town and can find it on an actual paper map. I've been getting around this fine country for several decades with maps and other people's directions. Somehow I am quite confident, even with the handicap of not having the latest in techno gizmos, I can find my way from my little farm in SE Iowa to my sister's house in a little podunk town in SW Colorado.

I have a map, a cell phone, lots of great CD's to listen to, and will have an amply supply of water and road trip munchies.
