I used to live in Hawaii, and I've been fortunate enough to have seen more doubles than i can count. I've seen more rainbows than I have snowflakes. And I still never take a single one for granted.
The last double i saw was here on the mainland, 4 or 5 years ago. I was on my way to my grandmother's funeral, a 200 mile trip. A huge thunderstorm passed over as i was getting on the interstate, and just as I got up to cruising speed, an enormous double rainbow appeared directly ahead of me, like it was forming a tunnel of light for me to pass through. I followed the storm east the entire trip, and the rainbow cleared the way for me the first half hour or so. It was beautiful; a magnificent double arch framing the black wall of the fleeing storm, sheets of lightning flickering and flashing in the half-moon beneath it, and everything around me sparkling and golden with its fresh new coat of rain. I felt like it stayed with me the whole weekend, felt charmed by it in a way. Of all the doubles I've ever seen, I'll never forget that one.
