I can not get my whip to crack and its driving me nuts! How do you do it? Any other hints and tricks with a belt would be greatly appreciate. A belt looks so innocent but in certain hands, it can be great!

Please share with me your whip cracking techniques. I appreciate it very much.

Its all in the wrist action. Think of how when folding towels many people "Pop" them with a upwards rolling motion and then a very quick "snapping" downwards motion with their wrists. Its a similar movement. Its the very sudden change of direction. :)

Hi Mistress Adore.. My former Mistress was wanting to learn to use a whip for play. I was able to get Her a 5' snake whip for Christmas that year. She loved practicing with it and was able to throw the tip mostly straight forward and an instant before it was fully extended, She'd give a quick flick back with Her wrist [ 2 or 3 inches]. The whip would crack nicely. She allowed me to try it for a couple of hours one day.....I was doing pretty good for abt an hour. Then on one of my flicks the cracker caught my face cheek right under my right eye! I never saw it coming! I always wear prescripition safety glasses for normal wear.. After that i went and found safety goggles to finish my time! Best of luck learning Your whip. They can really be a fun piece to play with.... on either end!! Please be careful and have a great time. http://www.bullwhip.org/index.html I'm not sure what kind of whip you have but since you are interested in making it crack/pop this will help a lot. My sister has the book (she bought it at a show she attended) and she can make a 1 foot whip snap/crack with deafening sounds, and she's a small girl. Hope this helps. Please read the safety section first.

I'm definitely not an expert on the subject but can happily share what little I know. Most of the information you have gotten so far seems to be pretty much on the mark. Some whips are easier to crack than others. I think a 5 ft. to 8 ft. single tail or bull whip would probably be the easiest though I've been able to crack buggy whips and such as well. It is the sudden change in direction of the last few inches that causes the "crack", so it is really a matter of timing. I think it is much easier to crack a whip with an underhand movement rather than overhand. Just my opinion on that though.

I hope you are only wanting to crack the whip for the intimidating sound and that you are not trying to crack it against a slaves skin. I had always thought that the "crack" came when one part of the whip doubled back and smacked into itself, much like what happens when you double a leather belt and make it crack by quickly yanking the two ends and making the halves slap together. From what I've read, though, that is not the case. The "crack" you hear from a whip is actually a small sonic boom caused when the tip of the whip breaks the sound barrier as you snap it back. The tip of a whip traveling at over 700 miles per hour can actually rip flesh from a slaves back or whatever area it hits, so please keep safety in mind.

Another thing for safety when using ur whip, don't use the underhanded motion to crack the whip without safety goggles and a very large clear area around you, using the under motion can cause ur whip to catch gravel and other small debris and send them flying at a dangerous rate of speed. Allows use safe practice when doing such.
