Status: offline 		Another police report that falls under the "don't try this at home" category whether with your spouse, s/o or a random stranger.

"HARTFORD, Connecticut (Reuters) – An American woman handcuffed herself to her sleeping husband in an apparent attempt to resolve an argument, but police ended up breaking into their home and charging her with assault and other crimes, authorities said on Tuesday.

Helen Sun, 37, handcuffed herself to Robert Drawbough as he slept in their Fairfield, Connecticut, home on Monday in an effort to reconcile their differences, police said.

But when Drawbough called police with his cell phone, Sun responded by biting him on the arms and torso, police said.

Police officers heard screams when they arrived at the home and forced their way in, said Chris Lyddy of the Fairfield Police Department. Sun had also changed the locks on their bedroom door.

Sun was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and unlawful restraint. She was released on a $400 bond.

"I can't say I've ever seen a scenario quite like this," said Lyddy."

A few different approachs to commenting about this.

1. She got the handcuffs, planned and had the bedroom door lock changed,
but never thought to take away his cell phone while he slept???

2. This is why having the power issues agreed upon is always the
best way to form a relationship.

3. If they have money problems, she has good instincts.
With a little instruction and training she could become a pro domme.

There are more but I'll stop here.

Quite often women that are physically abusive to men do so b/c men generally have it ingrained in them that due to their size, they should not respond in kind. In jail, she won't have that luxury and if she starts her crap someone is going to remind her how fragile good health is.

Status: offline 		I'm guilty of that, fortunate or not. Funny enough, THAT belief was ingrained by my father and mother, too.

I've let girls do some particularly abusive things in the past by nature of their gender/sex... both physical and otherwise.

My experience is that they get angrier when you don't respond to violence with more violence and the reason is because of what they are, not who they are.

Status: offline 		People tend to laugh when they hear of a guy being abused by his wife and I recently read of a man going to extreme lengths to have his wife's abuse documented by the authorities, he'd even experienced police officers laugh in his face when he'd explained how she'd punch and smack him in her attempts to provoke him. His case is not untypical apparently. Snap judgements are often made - it's not always easy to walk out leaving dependents with a person that's unbalanced and the judiciary is more biased in the woman's favour where dependents are concerned.

Aravain, the reason they become angrier with a non-response (it's still a response) is due to the chemical change in the brain at the outset of a confrontation and which can become addictive, almost pleasurable due to the release of the initial frustrations - it also gives the person a warped sense of power b/c of the lack of immediate consequences for their actions. This has nothing whatsoever to do with gender other than the fact women have gotten away with this for far too long because men have been reluctant to document this due to the ridicule they encounter.

Abuse is not gender specific and should be met with the same legal consequences unless used as a means of self-defence.If violence in women came down to a question of biology we'd still be eating our young.

Status: offline 		I knew that now (re: the biology of the reasons) thanks to psychology classes...

Doesn't change the fact that it seems counter-intuitive.

I didn't say I don't respond... but I don't respond with more violence. Now-a-days I learned that taking a protective position does nothing. I'll use my size to try and hold them till they calm down, now. Only had one opportunity to do that so far, but it seems much easier and less damaging for both of us.

Status: offline 		Hi Aravain, I wasn't criticising you for being non-responsive, just pointing out that to someone who's under the influence of an anger induced high, their perception is skewed and even a non-response is a response to them.

For someone faced with another person that's in the midst of an anger-induced high the only course of action they should take to ensure their safety is to remove themselves instead of remaining/entering into the personal space of the abuser.

Status: offline 		I have known a fair share of females that started throwing items and cursing whenever they did not get their way.  And a few that beat up on their male partners when angry.  Anger management is not just for men folk.
