As a rule we dont throw reporters in jail.   It is one profession specifically protected in the constitution.   freedom of press.

1. What are the criteria to be considered a member of the press?  If you can get arrested for it, it needs to be made nonarbitrary.

2.  It is (rightfully) illegal to impersonate a police officer.  The potential for abuse is huge.  Why is it illegal to impersonate a reporter?

According to the Supreme Court the press is any method of relaying information, regardless of the media. This board is "the press". Feel free to photoshop a "Reporter to the General Discussion Board of CollarMe.com" and ask Mayor Bloomberg for an interview.

A hotel lobby is not a paid ball game.   You presume that reporters get in to events for free.

I don't think you comprehend the gravity of this jailing.   We do not throw reporters in jail in the US.

The link, per the OP states that he is a reporter with press credentials.   It would help if you checked it.

In 2008 reporters in other parts of the world have been harmed and murdered.  You dont see the peril?    The point that you disagree with his organization isnt  material.   This is a slam of freedom of the press.

I think you should put together that super bowl plan that you posted.

He had press credentials that were issued by who...Alex Jones/Infodrivel. Press credentials generally (and specifically in NYC) are APPLIED FOR and issued by the organizations/events that you want to attend. He didnt/they werent/he wasnt.

Status: offline 		The impersonation here comes in by not having a valid press card, meaning he passed security screenings and thus can be in close quarters with the mayor, or a senator, or a president. This is done to prevent assassination. Presumably a reporter from The New York Times, or The Daily News, or Time would not be planning to actually shoot the mayor but an impersonator might.

He`s one of the heads of the lunatic 9/11 truthers.

The ones who swear it was an"inside job".

These creeps are about the only a-holes that piss me off even more than neo-cons and fundies do.And just as fanatic.

This guy is well known and not there as a reporter but as a harasser/screamer.He`s not trying to enlighten but rather trying to spread a twisted conspiracy, at the expense of 9/11 victims and their families.

These "truthers" are as disrespectful and as exploitive of the 9/11 tragedies, as bush and the republicans were/are.

Apparently you are happy with embedded reporting.  Just where I dont want to be during the bail out' of the century. 

And yet- would this be newsworthy if it was an issue on your mind?       Bloomberg is the mayor of NYC,

And yet- if this were a left / right issue then the left or the right would be all over it.   To claim that mainstream media doesnt get the job done, then to think a reporter being slammed in jail is ok;

It wasnt all that long ago Judith Miller sat in Jail, also in NY.    hmmm.  

ah sheet.  Turn on   CNBC, enjoy this weeks bail out.   Precisely why civilization is sinking.  No one asks the questions.

First responders,  during 9-11, were promised medical.   And there is none.    -- first responders have alot to deal with.  He is rather head strong.   When someone is arrested- the cops dont give the stuff back.  That is SOP.
