One wet autumn evening, William Tell arrived at the door of a small country inn. The innkeeper was remorseful as he told William Tell that he had no spare rooms. William Tell then asked if he could sleep in the barn, now the Inn Keeper was a kindly man and he discussed an idea he had with his wife who agreed with him. “William,” he said, “I know you to be a man of character, I’ll offer you a bed in my daughters’ room. Both the girls can share one bed and you may have the other.” “Thank you good sir.” Said the grateful William Tell. “However,” the Inn Keeper continued, “You must understand that you are not to lay a finger on either of my daughters.” William Tell nodded in agreement and headed towards the stairs following the directions the wife if the Inn Keeper gave him. “If you do William, I shall tell all those I can reach, of your actions and discredit you.” In the morning at first light, William Tell left a purse of gold coins, more than enough to cover his bill for the Inn Keeper and went on his way.” Later that morning the Inn Keeper climbed a mountain peak and yelled for all to hear: “William Tell screwed my two daughters! William Tell screwed my two daughters!” From a distant mountain top came an echo …. “And your old lady too!!” And so yodeling was started.
