Glad you found the webbing !

I've used cotton duck for a few things and I wonder if that would be substantial enough for a lightweight straightjacket (otherwise I see a lot of sewing needles getting replaced!).

I've been sewing for years and have produced some RennFest wear. You're right about the skinny profit - its very labor and detail-intensive. This would explain why most folks dont blink at laying out $400-ish for a well-made kilt !

Awe. :(

Sucks that the money making ability isn't there, but at least you have the skills to make yourself an awesome straight jacket! :D

I tend to think that the only fabrics that would really be problematic in making a straight-jacket are knits, especially if it's a more-for-looks kinda garment (nothing wrong with those) . ... . & don't forget the structural role played by the webbing . . .. . .

I tend to see the webbing as the actual bondage in a straight-jacket & the fabric is to keep the wearer's fingers away from the buckles & such, if that makes sense . .. .. .

& I hear what you're saying about wearing out the sewing equipment -- I'm longing for one of those heavy industrial machines that can sew leather & heavy canvas & such . . . . . lol

For me, sewing is very very very labor intensive, in part because I always end up doing a certain amount of hand sewing (for it's accuracy & control . . . . lol) . . . .

I'm a snotty bitch, too, & can barely be strictly-cash-motivated to get out of bed & pee for less than $100 an hour . .. . lol

Yeah, I regularly pee on people's money-making ideas, tho' I mean well . . . . . It's just that making a profit (at anything) is loads harder than most people think . . . . . I love business, marketing, econ, all that, obsessive interests of mine, & making a profit is not the natural & obvious home-run that so many treat it as . . . . . . Breaking even, that's very doable, but making a profit, that's tough . . ... . .

I view most of my skills more as an artist than an entrepreneur, which brings me greater joy than making money ever woulda-coulda-shoulda . . . . . .. I'm sure I'm in the teeny-tiny minority on this one, but money is highly over-rated . . . . . lol

Thanks for posting . .. .

I've seen people wearing straight-jackets as formal wear, at fetish events & such, with the sleeves rolled / strapped up, looks fabulous . .. .. & since evil geniuses are always getting caught & locked away in a padded room with their tunics traded out for the straight-jacket, I tend to think that straight-jackets can be 'dominant appropriate' wear, also, in addition to their obvious use with subs . . . ..

& a custom made straight-jacket could have holes in all the right places . .. . . lol

How there is an idea, a custom made straight-jacket for a sub, one that has all the bindings of a normal straight-jacket but none of the cover up // Sections around the waist and chest could be removed to show off they beauty to the room and an extra strap could be added to go from the front to the back between the legs so that the sub can be pretty much wearing the straight-jacket and nothing else *evil laugh* 'I Could Work!!!'

Yeah, straight-jacket meets body-harness kinda thing, I can picture it . . . . . . Nice & snug, so flesh is oozing out around the webbing . . . .. If necessary there could be some kind glove / hand-sack kinda thing going on, to keep those fingers tamed & restrained . . . .. . .

& I've noticed that lots of the straight-jackets made for the fetish market have zippers over the breasts -- I'm thinking those are not for pockets . . . . . lol . . .. . & the crotch area should / could be showcased by the between-legs straps . . . . . .lol

Excellent thought, thanks for the contribution . .. .. .

yeah... Dr. Horrible pretty much solidified this as a possible kink to be explored, for me, too (and I usually find medical play uncomfortable to think about)...

interesting fact, I only find Neil Patrick Harris cute when he's being straight for a role... >.>

So you're not alone in the desire... 'specially makes sense for me, too... I have a think for nerds/geeks...

DemonKia -> RE: Mad-Scientists & Evil Geniuses (4/1/2009 10:43:57 PM)

Thanks for the post . . . . .

I have this freaky set of gaydar (think I must have picked it up from military surplus) that goes like this: if I'm hot for him, he's probably gay, or bi . . .. . Doesn't work with women, in fact I'm kinda blind to lesbians cruising me . . . . . . Neil Patrick Harris falls into this category, along with Graham Chapman & a whole host of non-celebrity guys -- I see 'em, say to myself 'yum' & then find out they're gay / bi . . . . . *shakes head* . . . . lol . . . . . . . . Given my druthers I prefer bi-guys, so it's not really much of a problem . . ... . .

&, yeah, I'm with you, I totally dig nerd & geek . .. . Has this ever been posted here?

ArtfullDodger -> RE: Mad-Scientists & Evil Geniuses (4/16/2009 4:55:47 AM)

Not sure if this is the type of thing you are wanting...At a recent convention I built the "Science Hug"...It was a trio of silver bullets that I connected to a single pole switch on a control panel on my hip...Two of the buzzers were attached to a web strap on my chest and the third was just over my belt buckle, over this I wore a black flight suit with welding gloves and goggles...I would wander around the con approach ladies and ask (in a very bad German accent) if they wanted to particapate(sp) in an experiment...Most of the time they would say yes and then I would give them a hug and right after I started the hug I would hit the juice...One woman wouldn't let go...

But yes being an Mad-Scientist / Evil Geniuse can be very "intresting"...Just don't forget the laugh, alot of guys ignore the laugh and thats just about standards...

DemonKia -> RE: Mad-Scientists & Evil Geniuses (4/18/2009 9:08:52 PM)

Absolutely. That's delightful!

I figure the archetype of the mad-scientist / evil-genius is a jumping off point, as with all fantasies, open to modification to suit personalities, circumstances, materials at hand, imaginations, & so on . . .. .

& the mad scientist thing, for me, is but a segment of a larger interest in 'speculative fiction' scenarios -- sci-fi, horror, fantasy, & such like . . . . .

Which themselves are subsets of a lifelong generalized costuming mania I have . .. .. .

& your costume actually branches out into what I would call performance art, interactive at that . .. . . . Performance art also being a favorite of mine, & having overlaps with all of the above concepts . . . . .
