I'd still search (or google) 'freeware' and/or 'shareware' that way you get to look at ALL the programs available, not just those from one members' preferred site.

MadAxeman,

The problem is as old as recommendations. How much do you value a given recommendation
vs the cost and time of reinventing the wheel when you already are facing a problem.

This time BountyHunter was obviously better off listening to me, the results speak for themselves.

Here's my advise.  Unplug your computer from the wall.  Remove all of the extra things attached (monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, ect.).  Place all the parts in your burning barrel, cover them with lighter fluid, gunpowder, gasoline, rubbing alcohol, and kerosene.  Light your Zippo, and toss it in the barrel.... Run like hell to the closest cave, and live there for the rest of your life... Computers are evil.

That is all.

What I notice when I search for 'freeware' on Google is that the majority isn't because they place one irrelevant freeware programme next to thousands of shareware ones.  'Freeware -shareware -$' works slightly better for freeware IME.

MadAxeman -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/31/2009 11:18:57 AM)

Quite possibly.
There used to be an online publication called the Freeware Book. Only the best programs got included, a kind of software Oscars. The interface was very good (as one might expect) and apart from the individual programs, clipart, virals, games et al there were links to the leading software companies with job opportunities, interesting articles and favourite sites. All round top bollocks.

Bounty, have you backed up all your important files to both the hard drive and USB drives?  Just a reminder before you start repairing everything.
