Status: offline 		Well that was interesting.  It certainly makes sense.  When I engage in play time with the boyfriend I feel much closer to him than when we're engaged in less interesting sex.  Doing both with the same person regularly really brings a new level to this theory.

Status: offline 		i have beem married and collared to my Master for almost 8 years now.....due to health issues and family matters  W/we "lost"  (at times) the D/s part of  O/our relationship.....however in the last few months W/we have gotten back to it.....and W/we are doing better then ever....O/our love was always there...yet  a good spanking (etc.) has brought U/us even closer again.

Status: offline 		One factor I think the article overlooks is that I think many couples in the Lifestyle are a lot more apt to be honest and forthright in discussing their respective needs, desires, and limits, to respect those of their partner, and to understand about negotiation.   I think a lot of vanilla couples are reluctant to do this -- often pretending to enjoy some activities to please their partner, or having expectations that their partner turns out to be unwilling to meet.  (I'm mainly talking about sexually, but I'm sure it spills over into other areas too.)  While I'm sure many couples in the lifestyle have their problems, including those of communication, at least they subscribe to an ethos where communication and negotiation are seen as a good thing.

Status: offline 		Intriguing article. I think couples that indulge in BDSM, or any of it's closer daughters/variants, do have healthier relationships than most. Much of it does have to do with communication, as mentioned above. I also think a lot of it has to do with unleashing dark desires rather than bottling than up. They do actual damage that way.

1. As others have stated, you have to have good communication and trust to let your partner now you like to whip or be whipped.

2. BDSMers as a population tend to be smarter than others (from a study that was presented at The Enclave recently).

3. If the disciplinary component is present, then there is a clear cut way to deal with issues without the manipulation, pouting, etc. that exist in standard relationships.

4. BDSM is like sex in that it is intimate and feeds both partners.  If a study showed that couples who have sex are healthier than those that don't, it wouldn't surprise anyone.
