I don't understand and I need some assistance for that. I take Morphine Sulfate 100mg in tablet form manufactured by Watson Labs and have taken it for several years. I went to the FDA website and still can't figure out if my medication is about to be yanked from the market. I don't understand how these drugs can be not approved by the FDA to begin with, especially when the article says they are forms of previously approved medications. Ugh. I am just sick and tired of dealing with all this health crap atm, I really am. So if anyone can wade through the information I truly would appreciate it.

65, sadly- the FDA, a terrorist group, voted- and by a margin of 1 vote; considers opioid too dangerous. Darvon, that type of med. IMO it is all to sell new concoctions such as bextra, celebrex, where there is more money. It is a scam. I too have injuries- and at times- I have been pushed into situation that- is pathetic. It is all about money-- and nothing to do with "safety" You should see how these DRs operate. The 'pain clinic" scam. Essentially that is there to tell you it is all in your head- and ya need psychotrophics. Big HUGS my friend.

Camille, I had a lil look and it seems that the meds you are on, have beeen FDA APproved. I checked here, http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/unapproved_drugs/hcp.htm#determining then checked out the "orange book", and watson Labs 100mg extended relief is listed as approved, so you should be ok. http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/ob/docs/tempai.cfm Hope this helps Lucy

As far as your rhetorical about why one form of a drug could be not approved when others were, take oxycodone. It is only approved in slow release forms because fast release forms represent a significant OD risk. That doesnt stop an addict from crushing/dissolving and mainlining but a legitimate consumer wont be exposed to unintended hazards.

CruelNUnusual my doc won't put me on oxy. I have a hard enough time getting the MSContin now that I've moved to Texas. Lucy, thank you. I'm tired today and processing things is a wee bit difficult to do, reading the website got me lost. Pahunk.. yup. I am going to a pain management clinic because that is the only way I can get my prescribed medications here and it sucks. They are more used to dealing with injury related pain than chronic auto immune pain and keep telling me I can outthink the diseases which infuriates me. Thanks again all for the help.

I meant "take oxycodone" as an example of why one form of a drug is ok and others arent, not that you should take it. I would assume your doc wont put you on oxy because it is better suited for acute conditions, not chronic pain, because it is so addictive. Eg I have kidney stones every 8-18 months, and always have a bottle of oxy on hand. It helps manage the pain till they pass in 3-4 days. But when I had my first stone that wouldnt pass because it was too large, 2 weeks on oxy and I was ready to sell my body to buy more ;)

Oooh my sympathies! Those stones are awful to get, have you ever had your calcium levels checked? I've read quite a bit on a probable link between excess calcium and stones (I get them in my saliva glands.. major ouch). Sorry for the misreading of your post too, I'm having uber difficulties in parsing things today. I had taken oxy for about 2 years when living in Michigan and have to say I do prefer the MSContin as far as pain relief goes. The oxy left me too stoned feeling (nothing against being stoned but day in, day out gets a bit much).

The govt in the past has arrest DRs and or taken their licenses. IMO, only long term pain sufferers should write the law. Oxycontin is overrated. But opiods are not. I understand the addiction thing. But I have LIVED the chronic pain thing. ANyone going thru this the shots in the back can be helpful-- but DO mind how many times it is done. With me- I went into a 'roid rage over it. well- 41 injections of steroids would do that. Chiropracter and acupuncture has done more for me then any pain clinic. In my experience- pain clinics are a waste of time. Endless physical therapy- endless appointments- when to even do the dishes and get bathed is a big deal. Happily- my injuries are not as they were a few years ago. 20 hours a day in bed. each posistion pain- and to shift in the least painful position with out causing too much pain. then being in bed- makes the nerves and allignment off. then any meds have side effects and at times trigger need for more meds. -- strategic and smart treatment CAN improve the situation. But to me- the patient must alwsy have choice in the treatment. On alot of the new meds- IMO- an OTC will do the same. The new formulas are worthless.

Oxycodone is the one med I could take... here in MO I get nothing after seven years of proven need... I needed this... I guess I have some facts to accept...mofuckers didn't ask me if it works, but then what the hell am I thinking that one of us in need count?

camille, I am going to second holly's suggestion of talking to your pharmacist. It may be better for you to go in person though if phrasing is frazzled by the stress.

I remember when there was rumor of a medication being taken off the market. It was something I relied on for nausia. I talked to two pharmacist and my doctor asking that they give me a supply for the months I would need it. Oh... don't worry about that... it isn't happening and you will not be without. Yeah... two weeks later, you could not get the medication. I nearly lost the pregnancy because of it. I don't mean to be negative here... but a covered ass is better than trusting someone it won't hurt if they are wrong.
