FangsNfeet -> Vick back in the NFL? (4/2/2009 8:43:52 PM)

Which team is going to take the chance? Aren't ticket sales and sponsers a big thing to team owners? Which city really wants him to play again? I wonder how many threats each NFL team owner has already recieved saying " Hire Vick and we'll bla bla bla..."

Your thoughts.

That link is a 2-year old story about him going to prison. What's the deal now? He's getting out or something?

FangsNfeet -> RE: Vick back in the NFL? (4/2/2009 8:54:09 PM)

He is now out. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/19009786/detail.html

He just filed for bankruptcy today in a deal where he's allowed to keep $750,000 of a pay check.

Anyways, now that he's out, Vick plans to make a come back.

Oop! Just as I clicked on your post, the sports came on on my late news show. Sure enough, out he is and his agent says he'll be playing this fall.

Scum bag. I'm sure someone will give him a shot, but thankfully it won't be the Packers. Since they're the only NFL team I care about, I, uh.... don't really have a dog in this hunt.... but as a matter of principle I'm sure I'll be thoroughly outraged and disgusted when it happens.

Apparently MV will be working construction for awhile --> http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090402/ap_on_re_us/fbn_vick_bankruptcy

People forgive and forget. It seems to be what most people are best at.
He'll be back in one form or another ....and most won't really care one way or the other.

I don't think much of people involved in dog fighting. I honestly don't think much of pit bull owners. I do think there will be an NFL team who will give him a shot. While I think what he was involved in was disgusting they made an example of Vick. I'm not defending him  - just pointing out that he got the book thrown at him because of his notoriety. I think you'll see him taking snaps again in the NFL. Just not in Atlanta.

I have no doubt he'll be back.

If a team thinks he still has talent and they can make money from it he'll get a contract.

Look at Terrell Owens, his big mouth has seen him traded or released from several teams but he is always taken on by another.

Not to mention the drug, alcohol, weapons charges and all types of other crime the NFL has taken back players after.

I think Vick, no matter which team gives him a shot, will not so easily be forgiven by the fans.

Too many people who are animal lovers.  Remember all the protests at his trial?

Arpig -> RE: Vick back in the NFL? (4/3/2009 10:10:55 AM)

Seems to me he did his time, so what's the big deal. Why should he have his chosen career denied him in addition to the jail time he was sentenced to?

Arpig, good point, he *has* paid his debt to society. Shouldn't he be allowed to earn a living?
Worse people than him get out and then become productive members of society.
Doesn't "everyone" deserve a second chance?

subfever -> RE: Vick back in the NFL? (4/3/2009 11:50:22 AM)

I concur.

Who among us hasn't gone in the wrong direction, at some point in our lives?

maybemaybenot -> RE: Vick back in the NFL? (4/3/2009 12:07:56 PM)

I agree with you in theory Arpig. But in my own little mind: no debt is ever returned when the crime was abuse against a child or animal. Both helpless and  unable to protect themselves in anyway.

He may be out of jail, but he is going to have to plead his case to the NFL to be re instated before he can even look for a job in football. Goodell suspended him indefinately and that has not been lifted or removed.

The indefinite NFL suspension I was not aware of, however I still feel that as he has "paid his debt to society" it should be lifted

LadyPact -> RE: Vick back in the NFL? (4/3/2009 12:42:44 PM)

I couldn't care less if Vick ever plays again or not.

My biggest disappointment in all of this, is finding out that the Panda is a cheesehead.

I'm not necessarily in disagreement, but let's face it, entertainers like Vick get preferential treatment because of their ability to generate revenue from whoever employs them.

Anyone else who had to leave his career because of a felony conviction most likely wouldn't be as lucky.

And I guarantee the fans, if he does come back, are going to be all over him.

slvemike4u -> RE: Vick back in the NFL? (4/3/2009 12:50:52 PM)

He has paid his dept to society, and as such has a right to earn a living.
However he is not owed a right/chance or opportunity to be an NFL Quarterback.....if in the judgement of individual teams he isn't worth the very predictable blow back any team inviting him to a camp would get....than go drive a truck or work a construction job Michael.
2nd chances at NFL stardom and rich contracts are not in the Constitution.
