misssubmisse -> How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 4:10:32 AM)

How could someone know I was online/offline? Is there a feature I don't know about that has something pop up, like there are on the various IM programs?

I leave my computer on pretty much 24/7, and I just login here and leave it logged in since privacy isn't an issue at my place, so I had been logged in for tons of hours and I checked messages then logged out and BOOM someone on my YIM list messages me knowing I was there since there was activity on my profile here. He just gave me a smartass answer as to how he knew, but really, how did he?

Can we keep track of each other with anything other than having someone on favorites or doing a search on their username? I wanna know how to do it! [:(]

It was someone I really love chatting with in any event, so it wasn't a bad thing (incase you're reading this, I'm always up for a chatty sesh with you Goofball lol) but it was strange.

Btw I just found out today also from him that feature on YIM that shows when you're idle and when you're not...a girl can't sneak around and pop in and out at all anymore [:'(] lol

If you do a profile search you'll see the more recent ones say online now or last activity 2 minutes or whatever. The site kepts track of the last time there was activity between your computer and the sites. If your only reading a few posts it might list you as last activity 6 minutes ago, then you type a reply and its back to online now.

At the side of your post at the bottom it says status and currently says online

Not sure how long this site leaves it before deciding you are offline if it has seen no further activity but some use 10, 15 or even 20 minutes.

Thats what happens elsewhere at least and I'm assuming its how it works here.

Why "track" someone? What's the purpose? If you want to make contact with them...make contact with them. Why follow them around? Sounds sort creepy to me.

On YM, it's "your" option to allow someone to put you on "their" list. If it's an issue for you, of them seeing you online, don't allow it. If it's too late, and you want no contact with them, or don't want them to "see" you online, you can change your preferences to block them from viewing you all together.

Personally, I don't like every Tom, Dick and Hairy [:D] putting me on their Friend's List. I keep my list for actual "friends."

As for him "knowing"...he was probably yanking your chain, and it was just a coincidence.[;)]

You can change your yahoo preferences so that you are never shown as idle or only shown as idle after a longer period of inactivity. You can also choose to remain invisible if it becomes an issue.

misssubmisse -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 7:42:17 AM)

RM - Thanks a lot for that, I'd always thought that I'd be constantly listed as "online now" if I just stayed signed in, but I guess sites don't like that or something. I was pretty surprised that it had shown me not haiving been active vs again being active...strange but tres cool [:D]

FTinM - Thanks I appreciate that and I'd have to agree with the sentiment of it being creepy, had it been someone else, I would have creeped out, but this person has done nothing to make me think I need to worry and has been very helpful to me so far. Things could change and he could be a total moron, but for now, he's someone I enjoy chatting with and is exactly the kind of experience I was looking for; he's also attached so that makes me feel more confortable (I know, I know, just because of that doesn't mean I'll be safe from some sort of perving forever, but it's working for now at least). I also didn't plan to be all creepy, I just love finding the little "new" stuff on this site, like just the other day I learned what the "sent mail" button was...then ti took me a few more visits to see where it says "Read" and actually shows you whether your message has been read by the member or not. I was plenty impressed with the technology, let me tell you lol And lastly, we exchanged a few pretty lengthy messages over cm.com first before he even told me he and his girl preferred to use an IM program and gave me his addy and tod me to add him when I felt comfortable; so him seeing me online didn't matter, I just was at work at the time and...well, you've probably read my thread about the politeness compulsion [&:] so it was impossible for me to just walk away and not take time to reply since I knew he'd know I'd read his message and just left, seemed rude, so i wanted to make sure it didn't idle me out and tattle on me every time I happened to be near the computer and didn't have time to chat. Your suggestions were all great, and I've really appreciated your replies in a good few of the threads I've made, I thank you for taking the time to give me some lessons where you can [:D]

jh - Wow, thanks LOTS! I'd seen where I could change the time before it shows me as idle, but didn't have the braincells to rub together to see I could just uncheck the boxes and never worry [X(] lol Thanks for your help, that was awesome! [:D] i know about the going invisible to everyone and the "stealth modes" going invis. to just chosen people, but I only JUST learned 2 days back, so thanks for mentioning that option too! [:)]

You guys are my heroes, thanks a bunch [:D]

xxblushesxx -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 7:55:52 AM)

personally, I just stay invisible unless I am ready to chat...otherwise...I would never get anything done. (including posting here, and you know I NEED to!) *lolol*

that stealth mode is great. you can be seen as online to only those you want to be seen by...to everyone else you're not. ok, a bit hard to explain how you are on collar but, not on yahoo...but...who always turns on their yahoo anyway, huh?

*looks down at feet, quickly

....uhm...anyway, you get the idea!

*g*

misssubmisse -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 8:04:50 AM)

Hmm, ok so just skimmed the option for collarchat.com and found I can make myself appear offline, that's cool. Wonder if it does the same with collarme.com simultaneously or if they're separate entities [:-]

Thanks again all [:D]

LOL Thank you for that! I feel the same way, the posting and the stealth mode. Now that I've found this offline feature, I'll have to use it when I come in wanting to focus solely on the message boards.

It's good to know I'm not the only one [:D]

FelinePersuasion -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 1:44:59 PM)

yes colalr me shows people when you're on the site or not. Collar me also showes when you last loggedo n to the site.

veronicaofML -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 2:10:36 PM)

if you are on collarme....it says by your name profile who is on right now at that moment
if you are on, like, yahoo msngr...and they have your name on their side..
it says in the mailbox who is on,,,even if the msngr says you are invisible

there are several ways to tell

look around

FelinePersuasion -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 3:06:57 PM)

RiotGirl -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 3:25:27 PM)

ooooh a girl can sneak around if she really chooses too [:D] Like for each individual listing on your YIM if you left click them there is something called "stealth settings" Make sure to go to your PROFILE too and click "do not allow others to see me online"

And if you really'd like to make it easy. Just go up to the status message next to your name and put a busy signal. i dont think it specifically allows you to go idle. And since it isnt much of a matter to me i havent checked it out. But as others were saying. You can disable the "idleness" if you choose too.

there are also wasy to be abit stealthier here on com.

LOL where there is a will there is a way!

misssubmisse -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 7:16:26 PM)

Thanks everyone for the replies, both the informative ones and the humorous ones lol [:D]

OK so my specific question would be about checking a member's online status.

The way i do it right now is to click on my Favorites, then click their username, then it shows me their condensed profile and the thing at the bottom saying when they were on last or that they're online now. Is that the way everyone does it? Or is there a different way that's faster? He seemed to do it pretty fast so I'm wondering if he knows something I didn't learn yet, and he hasn't been on to answer me yet so I'll ask here instead because I'm not known for patience lol [:D]

So far I just know the way I described up there, and also the colors I know at this point are pink for female submissive, blue for male dominant, and purple for couples, and I think the red was female dominant.

Is there a setting that will put members who are online in a different color or some other faster/easier way to check who's online besides the whole clickfest?

Sometimes I wish I weren't so horribly curious, I consume a lot of time trying to find the best or most efficient ways for everything [:-]

IronBear -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 8:24:08 PM)

Actually, when you read this and it shows unver my pic ets on the side that I'm offline, there is a better than even chance that I'm actually on line and yet if you look at the top of the page , you will never see my name there on any forum.

No it's not done with smoke and mirrors. Collarme has the preference in (I think) the profile on this side of collarme (not the profile on the otherside) to select if you want your being logged on to be shown to all or not... Like in YM, I prefer the stealth mode....

misssubmisse -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/28/2006 9:29:46 PM)

Thanks IB [:D] I actually have taken some time to search around as much as I coud and found that option for "hiding" status on this collarchat.com section, but couldn't find anything similar for the collarme.com part.

I've been trying to look more carefully in the collarme.com part to see if names flash or change color or something equally obvious, but nothing so far, so maybe the only way to see it on that part is the way I'd mentioned doing it before. I'm still keeping an eye out just incase lol [:)]

blackpearl81 -> RE: How'd He KNOW?! (1/29/2006 9:09:24 PM)
