For some reason i think if Obama try's this it will cause far more problems then would exist if he did nothing ;)

Obama may fire pollution particles into stratosphere to deflect sun's heat in desperate bid to tackle global warming
By David Gardner
Last updated at 3:00 PM on 09th April 2009President Barack Obama is considering a radical plan to tackle global warming by firing  pollution particles into the stratosphere to deflect some of the sun’s heat. The controversial experiment was touted yesterday as a possible last resort to help cool the Earth’s air by the president’s new science advisor John Holdren.‘It’s got to be looked at. We don’t have the luxury of taking any approach off the table,’ said Mr Holdren, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology.Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology, outlined the idea of shooting either sulphur dioxide particles, aluminium oxide dust or specially designed aerosols into the stratosphere - the upper level of the atmosphere between ten and 30 miles above the Earth's surface.

What's wrong with considering ALL possibilities?
It doesn't mean acting upon them and the research could inform other decisions to be made.

Shake, honestly.  Your posts have become really obvious.
And that is coming from someone in the UK who has no affiliation.

On 9-12-01, all air traffic in the United Statres was grounded. As a result, there were no high altitude contrails reflecting sunlight away from the surface of the Earth. During those days, scientists monitoring the mean surface temerature and the level of sunlight actually reachint the surface to skyrocket.

Certain forms of pollution, it seems, has been masking the worst effects of global warming.

At least Obama's looking at plans to try and change the equasions a bit. Unlike his predecessor, who sat on his fat, oily ass and allowed the polluters to fuck over our skies and water. Bush pulled out of Kyoto, and denied that global warming... oh, excuse me... "climate change"... actually existed. When he did finally admit it, (seeing incontrovertable evidence that had been around for decades) he denied that it was caused by humans.

Good ol' George Bush... the Nero who fiddled while the Earth burned.

And you can STILL tune in to anti-science know nothings like Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Riely and the rest, harping on their boob opinions that it's all a scam.

*yawn* i'm getting kind of bored with the reactionary anti-Bush post for every anti-Obama post....

Why be extreme either way?  Pollution won't just affect people affiliated to certain political parties.  It will affect us all.  Not just Americans...but every person that calls this planet home.  Too bad this thread isn't really about pollution, because that might have actually been relevant[8|].

KYOTO without china is worthless

I completely see that as well. On one hand, it's horrible, and on the other, completely tragic.

I suspect that this is an attempt to placate the aerospace lobby.  Gates proposed cutting the funding they'd get.

What exactly are you saying here?

If China doesn't commit then our reduction in pollution is worthless?

Why would our reduction in pollution be compensated for by China?

Does China have some secret plan to keep world pollution at a certain level, so that if one country reduces pollution China makes up their share?

MasterShake69 -> RE: Obamas new plan to save the planet??? More Pollution? (4/10/2009 7:06:00 AM)

the idea with KYOTO is to "save the planet"

so we destroy our economy to save the planet while someone else has no restrictions on the amount of pollution they can produce.
But wait,...if we need to produce more pollution we can still buy the pollution rights of a few 3rd world nation that makes no pollution and then we are back to where we were before Kyoto ;)  Just it will costs the American taxpayer some $$$.  So is it really about saving the planet or just a transfer of wealth to 3rd world country's ;)

Yes, i'm sure we'll all feel alot better knowing our great-great-grandchildren's last gasping breaths will be financially unemcumbered[8|]

kittinSol -> RE: Obamas new plan to save the planet??? More Pollution? (4/10/2009 7:20:39 AM)

China is a third world country? That's news to me.

lronitulstahp -> RE: Obamas new plan to save the planet??? More Pollution? (4/10/2009 7:27:52 AM)

Third World = Not Founded by Europeans ??????

kittinSol -> RE: Obamas new plan to save the planet??? More Pollution? (4/10/2009 7:36:14 AM)

Or is third world a colour thing? I'd rather not know, really [:(] .
