I see no reason to get my panties in a twist over a "Happy" anything.  I try and respond in kind to whichever holiday greetings are being given to me.  Jewish, Pagan, Christian, whatever.  It is a kind thought from the person.  Just as when someone says "God bless," or "Goddess bless."  It is crass, in my opinion, to throw these back in the person's face.

Oh, and I am polite to missionaries that show up at my door as well.  THEY feel that they are doing something good.  Who am I to argue?

TheHeretic -> RE: Someone says Happy Easter to you, do you... (4/12/2009 9:45:49 AM)

I'll toss a 'you too' back at them.  I don't mark the Christian celebration on purpose, and regard the overly long prayer before the dinner with my mother-in-law as the price of all the leftovers we'll bring home.

I might see if we can pull off some sort of freaky fertility rite this afternoon, though.

One hint for those who like to engage the missionaries is to ask them to tell you the origin of the word Easter.  (Baptists will make up the most outrageous stories).

i am too laid back to worry about stuff like this. It is Easter. It is a fact. I do not care what religion you are, today is Easter. You may not celebrate it, but that does not change the fact that it is Easter.

Frankly, anyone who gets offended by something of this magnitude needs to have some REAL issues in their life!

I try not to dismiss that which brings comfort and joy to the heart of another.

If they say Happy Easter, Merry Xmas, whatever,  I say Thanks, you too.  If I know someone is of another religion, I might wish them a pleasant holiday of their own.  I just don't have it in me to be offended if someone offers me a happy, a blessed, a peaceful, a whatever that is a nice thing.  I just spread the happy thoughts.

I say Happy Easter back.  It's my holiday and it's obviously their holiday.  If somebody honestly gets offended because I wish them a happy holiday, then they really need to step back and reevaluate their life.  If somebody wishes me happy "insert non-Christian holiday here", I'd say thank you and I'd really mean it.  I wouldn't get all offended, nor would I act like a jackass and try to minimize their holiday by trying to prove how "intellectual" and "cultured" I am.

I grew up around religion...  When someone wishes me a Happy Easter I usually thank them and wish them a Happy Easter as well.

I can't say better than what other have already offered.

Happy Easter to everyone!  [:)]

Lol, i think;

Dammit, i missed another oppertunity to play with dye.  (but that option wasn't listed)

Right now, we're having thunderstorms, and i feel bad for all those little UMs. i'm personally ammused by the holiday, but i still like it because its so cute.
One year i dyed eggs just because, then Master got the idea that He and i would sneak into a church yard and hid all 3 dozen eggs. We did. Fun Stuff!!!

soul2share -> RE: Someone says Happy Easter to you, do you... (4/12/2009 11:51:58 AM)

well, I'm an agnostic, but don't have any problem with any religious holoday....well, other than the over-commercialism that seems to go with them.....I must have been wished happy easter by about a dozen people the past two days...my response?  "You too", or I actually said "have a good easter".  Didn't cost me a thing, and I did mean it.

Now...where's my chocolate?????

LadyPact -> RE: Someone says Happy Easter to you, do you... (4/12/2009 11:53:05 AM)

I came back to read the happy thoughts of others and throw in a Happy Easter to those who wanted it.

DemonKia -> RE: Someone says Happy Easter to you, do you... (4/12/2009 12:30:44 PM)

As long as they don't get offended when I say, 'Happy Zombie-Jesus Day!' in return . .. . . lol

DesFIP -> RE: Someone says Happy Easter to you, do you... (4/12/2009 12:39:26 PM)

"Thank you, enjoy the weekend" is my usual response.

But it's funny, half the post seder conversation was about rabbit recipes. We all agreed that despite reading recipes to the contrary, we aren't ever going to do southern fried rabbit. Sticking to braising here.

Sounds almost like the reaction I'll get when I wish someone a happy bunny day!

Hehe, we call it the same here, Hasen Tag.

A fun day for colouring eggs, eating chocolate and family.

You did all the work for me, so nothing left to say, other than "Thank you" for bringing all the quotes together.

Lashra -> RE: Someone says Happy Easter to you, do you... (4/14/2009 2:14:02 PM)

I just say Happy Holiday and leave it at that. I do not want to get into a religious discussion with someone because most likely our views would clash and I have better things to do with my time.

Chances are I wish them a happy Easter in return and then ask "where's my chocolate?"
